Poor customer service
After waiting in line at the Charlotte, NC airport branch (about 45 minutes) to be waited on, I told the customer rep I didn't want any extras including insurance and gas. When I returned the car, I had filled it with gas about 5 miles from the airport. The rep at the return site was very nice and had me sign off on my receipt. I didn't notice that I was being charged the fuel option $63.29, so I called the company to have that charge negated. I'm absolutely certain I declined ALL options including the fuel. The customer service rep was unhelpful, to say the least. He insisted I had no recourse but to pay, because I signed off when I got to the airport, despite the fact that I refilled the gas right before returning the car. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. AS IT WAS CLEAR THE REP WASN'T IN ANY WAY WILLING TO SEE IF THIS COULD BE RECTIFIED. Would not recommend these folks to anyone and don't plan on doing business with Dollar again.

No more car rental (sold out) at our arrival even if reserved and paid in advance!
Even though we prepaid 2/3 of the car in advance via Orbitz, even though I called at the desk directly in Calgary to inform that our flight was cancelled and we would take another flight later that day and gave the flight number and even though the person on the phone told me no problem, when we arrived at the counter there was no more cars available (sold out at Hertz, Thrifty and Dollar (same management)). We were 3 parties from the same plane in the same situation. I spoke on the phone to the manager (Janniny) and she told us that nothing could be done and we would have to come back the morning after. We told her that we had an hotel prepaid in Banff (which is more than 1h30 from Calgary), but she just could not do anything about it.

By chance there was the clerk at the counter (Frank Gonzalves from Hertz), who was customer oriented. He even offered us to drive us to Banff (3 hours round trip!). Contrarely to Janniny his manager and contrarely to the company he is working for, this person knows what customer service and customer experience is.

A 0/10 for the rental company and its manager Janniny
A big 10/10 for Frank Gonzalves

I would rate 0 stars if I could! Stay away!
My friends and I went on vacation and rented from this company and we ended up cutting our vacation short and came home 3 days early. The guy at the return center told us to call the next day about getting refunded for the days we didn't use. So we called and spoke to this guy and he said we would be getting back 300$ and it should be in our account within 5 business days. A month passed and still no refund. So I call again and the lady who was helping us this time told us no refund could be issued. Like what!? The guy before totally just lied to us and this company is such a scam. Got charged for 3 whole days that we didn't use the car. I will be telling my friends and family and everyone I talk to, to never use this company ever. Such a scam

Wish there was a ZERO rating
Wish the site had a ZERO rating; WORST car rental experience I HAVE EVER HAD! Arrived at the Dollar counter at the Gillespie St. Car rental facility that services the Las Vegas McCarren Airport at 1:00 on a Sunday (big arrival day for Las Vegas visitors) It started right away; EIGHT reception terminals and only ONE receptionist checking patrons in. (reminded me of a bad grocery story). We only had TWO people ahead of us and yet waited over 30 minutes just to reach the receptionist;... why the car rental industry has not been able to automate and/or expedite a simple rental process remains appalling to me.

She of course was a real peach! This person (Paulette, I believe) IS NOT in the right business; mean, cranky and short-tempered! I was as cooperative as could be just so I could get-the-heck away from her! Finally got the almighty paperwork to proceed downstairs to collect my vehicle. Uh-oh! The Dollar kiosk seems to also serve the Thrifty kiosk (as the kiosks are one and the same) and with only ONE ATTENDANT the two lines were already 20 people deep on both sides (40+)! With NO attendant visible I gathered my info from fellow patrons only to find there were NO CARS AVAILABLE, and Dollar Rent-A-Car were only checking you out as cars came in, went through the cleaning process and were delivered one by one to the kiosk area. OMG! What kind of business stays open WITH NO INVENTORY!

To add anxiety to anxiety the cars exiting the facility were 23 deep in line and for some reason taking an avg. Of 90 seconds per car (I know because with nothing better to do but WAIT I was timing each car's departure time) just to EXIT THE FACILITY! (3 booths, only 1 open) You do the math! OUCH!

The attendant was running around, and rightfully-so, very stressed out, stating; "I'm doing about 8 things at once here so please be patient". And we all WERE being very patient, but spending our vacation time standing in a dusty, dark, hot parking garage awaiting the arrival of a car we booked weeks in advance, was not what any of us had in mind!

Cars arrived ever-so-slowly as we inched our way to the front of the line. 30, 35, 40, 45 minutes later a car finally pulled up. But with two lines we didn't know if it was for us or the other line, so waited, waited and waited some more with no attendant in sight. Exasperated, one of the other frustrated customers returned to the reception area upstairs only to return with the news that THE ATTENDANT HAD GONE ON BREAK! FIFTY people awaiting a vehicle AND SHE GOES ON BREAK! UNBELIEVABLE! I don't care if she is UNION (or not), her moral compass alone should have kicked-in and said; "I'll sit this break out to help these folks"... but NOOOOOO, no such moral compass present with this employee.

With no attendant to disperse the SLOWLY-accumulating inventory of vehicles (3 now, oooo) and this one sitting right in front of me I finally said WTF and jumped in we were OUTA THERE! The exit booths had acquired an additional attendant so the exit time had been cut in half and within 15 MORE minutes we finally exited the facility.

As previously mentioned, I HAVE NEVER HAD SUCH A BAD RENTAL EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE! It wasn't just a single failure, it was FAILURE AT EVERY TURN in the process (as documented above). Needless to say I WILL NEVER utilize DOLLAR or THRIFTY for my car rental needs EVER AGAIN! Traveling to Nashville this weekend and have ALREADY canceled my rental car. Uber and Lyft, here I come.

Beware when renting from Dollar
We rented a car with Dollar Rent a Car in the beginning of October from Chicago. When we got to Chicago to pick up the car the agent asked us if we wanted to add the Insurance and we said NO. We had the car for 7 days and when we returned it Dollar Rent-A-Car said they would email us a receipt which they never did. When I finally was able to see my receipt I see that they charged me for the Insurance $131.00. Called them and did no good at all. So beware if you rent from them and check everything you sign with them. You would think since we told him we did not want the Insurance he would not add it to our bill.

CHARGED ME for delivering REPLACEMENT car
After about 6 hours of PHONE HOLD, Dollar decided to replace disabled car by towing one from very far away, even though Dollar Rent-A-Car had a location much closer. Now they have CHARGED ME THE TOW cost. They are balking at issuing me a credit. A supervisor was to call me back... but~~

Simply an awful place with poor customer service
I reserved a car fr 217.65 that I put on my credit card. I went to pick it up and the agent, wearing a mask and speaking very low, asked me to sign the "contract" that totaled $364.33. I had received an email upon reserving the car online that had an approx total of 304.00. I told the agent that I did not want any additional coverage, she said okay, I asked if the amount I was signing including EVERYTHING including the amount I paid online to reserve and was told yes.
I looked at my statement a few days later and noticed I had an additional charge of 364.33. I called and was told that that was the taxes/fees, airport service and extra service protection which I distinctly told her I did not want. I called and was told by two ppl that Dollar Rent-A-Car could not reimburse me, asked me if I went to get the car fixed and if so, I could submit the receipt, also asked if I called roadside assistance. I asked to be reimbursed for either the cost of the car or the extra service protection and was told that once the contract was signed there was nothing they could do; we all know that they can, just won't do it.
I called Hertz the following day and was told the same thing.
Both calls I asked to speak to the supervisors manager and was told that they were the highest in the escalation process and there was no one else I could talk to.
I am beyond furious with both Dollar and Hertz. I usually rent from Budget who is ALWAYS so nice and helpful.
I cannot believe I am having to pay 581.00 for a compact car that was unsafe to drive and coverage that I truly believe I was scammed.

If you want to loose you're deposit rent there
When i waq doing the check in i told the guy that there is some scratch on the car and i say nothing and didn't take picture and on the checkout the say to me that i damage the car wtf

HORRIBLE!
IM HIGHLY UPSET ABOUT THIS RENTAL! I RENTED FROM THEM A MONTH AGO AND WHEN I MADE MY RESEVSTION IT SAID THE PRICE OF THE RENTAL WAS $239... WHEN I GOT TO THE AIRPORT TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE I GOT A DIFFERENT PRICE... I ENDED UP PAYING ALMOST $800 WITH THE PRICE OF THE RENTAL, INSURANCE AND THE DEPOSIT... I WAS LIVID! I ASKED ABOUT THE INSURANCE SHE TOLD ME WE HAD TO GET IT OR WE COULDNT RENT THE VEHICLE, THEN SHE SAID I COULDNT GO SOMEWHERE ELSE OR Dollar Rent-A-Car WOULD CHARGE MY CARD BECAUSE I CANCELLED THE RENTAL AND IT WASNT 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE SO IT WAS LIKE I WAS BEING FORCED TO RENT FROM THEM... I TOLD HER THAT THEY SHOULD EXPLAIN THESE FEES OVER THE PHONE OR EVEN IN SMALL PRINT HELL! TO TOP IT OFF I JUST RECIEVED A CHARGE ON MY CARD FOR ANOTHER $50 FOR TOLL FEES LIKE REALLY WTF YALL JUST RIPPING PEOPLE OFF... I KNOW I DIDNT GO THRU ANY TOLLS CAUSE I WAS A RESIDENT IN THE CITY FOR 17 YEARS UNTIL JULY OF 2020... SMH NEVER WILL I EVER RENT FROM THEM AGAIN AND I WILL NEVER REFER ANYONE TO THEM! THIS IS BEYOND ME

Charging you false fee's and stealing $100's from customers
Do not rent from Dollar! I rented a car in LA. Dollar Rent-A-Car told me to just go pick one from "Lot 3". I walked around and did my assessment. But they don't require anything back. I left. I brought the car back a few days later. Clean and full of gas. The guy who I returned it to did not look at it then. He just told me to leave the keys in it and I could leave. The day after I got home I looked at my credit card balance and noticed that my $53 rental was now $453! I checked email and nothing from Dollar. No phone call either. So I called their customer support and was told they "smelled ashes" and therefore I was charged $400 for smoking in the car. I DON'T SMOKE, I never have. But with all my pleading to try and tell them that there was no way this could have happened, they just assumed I was lying and said there was nothing they could do for me. I asked to talk to a supervisor and was told that "none were available". This is either "standard practice", a way to scam people, or their check-in system is flawed. There was no way I could defend myself since this "audit" on the car was done AFTER I left. I'm in the process of disputing this thru my credit card company. I am having to try and "prove" that I am not a smoker, so next stop is my doctor. This is ridiculous to have to go thru this, and I wonder how many other people are being charged false "fees" without the ability to dispute any of them. Again... DO NOT RENT FROM THESE GUYS!
