A bad review makes your house worth less
The simple truth is that pointing out the bad construction quality of my home will make the biggest investment of my life worth less. I have been reading all of the 5 star reviews from the happy homebuyers that have recently moved in. I say just wait. But then, later, will KB Home want to write a review that will reduce the value of a home that they might want to sell?
HERE ARE SOME OF THE PROBLEMS DISCOVERED WITH MY 14 YEAR OLD KB HOME. I purchased my KB Home a few years ago. It was built in 2007 in a gated community of some 220 homes. I bought it for a great price and the seller was thrilled to make the deal--now I know why.
The first thing I encountered was the poor wiring. I change every one of the electrical outlets. Some of them wouldn't even hold a plug anymore--just the simple weight of a cord would cause them to fall out. One of the outlets was even melted. As I proceeded with the change out I got shocked even though I had turned off the breaker for that circuit. WHAT! I discovered that it was a backfeed from a dimmer switch on a different circuit that shared the same neutral wire. An outright building code violation.
Fast forward to today and the latest problem is the concrete tile roof. It stared to leak in two places. The roofer came out and told me that he would make the repairs, but that before long I would have to have a complete roof job! Why, a roof shouldn't have to be completely redone every 15 years? The three main reasons were: ONE, the wood panels under the concrete tiles in some places didn't extend all the way to the peak thereby not giving adequate support for the roofing above in those areas; TWO, there was only a single layer of unmodified paper, a paper that with temperature changes and the weight of concrete tiles would crack thereby breaching the critical barrier that it needs to maintain; THREE, the overlap on the roof tiles themselves is at least an inch short of the manufacturer's requirement as well as what is considered the industry standard.
I'm going to stop here because I don't want to seem petty with all of the other little things. I just want to finish by saying, if I judge by my home, then I can say that it appears that at least here in California that KB Homes builds houses to the quality that will get them past the California 10 year law.
I just wanted you to know.

KB homes destroyed my neighborhood
I don't own a KB home. KB Home developed the cheapest, ugliest, low quality houses next to me, and destroyed my property; multiple times.

Bad KB Home build
These people are very bad builders. Please do yourself a favor, stay away from KB Homes. Do your research and find how many people are dissatisfied with there new KB Home crap home.

A Nightmare
We were doing PCS with the Navy and KB Home was our nightmare. Since August 2021 talking to them and in December we came to Jacksonville Florida to discover we didn't have a house to stay because KB Home weren't even working on it. DON'T BUY WITH THEM

Terrible all around
We bought our home brand new in 2018 as first time home buyers. We started experiencing problems with our AC unit in 2019, but AC Designs came out and checked our unit multiple times and said it was running properly and everything was fine. Later in that year, we started noticing the humidity in our house was over 60%. Being young and naive, we turned our AC down and carried on. My husband and I would continue to have allergy-like symptoms year round but multiple doctors confirmed that it was just that - allergies. In 2020 I had our son. From the moment we brought him home, he started experiencing breathing problems and was in and out of the pediatricians office with 'allergy-like symptoms.' After a nebulizer, medication and lots of sleepless nights, we started digging around our house to find the source. Low and behold, our house was covered from ceiling to floor in mold. Our AC ducts are full of mold, our lights, our cabinets and our entire house. We called KB to come look at our problem who then called a restoration company to come out and look at our problem. Sure enough, our entire house is spewing mold particles and spores about. KB says it isn't that bad and our house is 'liveable through the process.' But the restoration company tore out our master bath, our kitchen and bedroom is covered in plastic, our entire dining room area is full of boxes from our kitchen cabinets belongings and our fridge is in the middle of our hallway. Everything is taped up and sealed and we have no access to a stove, microwave or any of our kitchen supplies. Yet, KB determined that our house is 'liveable.' KB Home have yet to help us locate another house to live in, they stopped returning our calls after they realized how bad the problem really is, and our house is sitting empty with multiple pieces of equipment running. They refuse to pay our mortgage and electricity bill while we are going through this process and their offer to help was to 'pay for a hotel or airBnB.' We spent days homeless, bouncing our son and 2 dogs around from house to house while we looked for a place to stay. When we finally found a potential rental property, we could get no response from KB about paying for it. We are now going into the weekend without a home, without a place to stay and we are paying out of pocket for a town house rental. The entire process has been a nightmare. Total and complete nightmare. My poor son has been breathing in mold for his entire life and there is no remorse or understanding of our frustration. This company does not care about its customers and it shows greatly in how they are handling our situation.

Shady Business Practices
I recommended a client to KB homes, and KB Home were convinced to build without being represented. Now that I know they have a shady business model, I won't ever recommend them to clients again.

Do not take the risk to build with this company
The warranty doesn't mean anything. Don't be fooled like I was. Once there was a problem KB Home didn't know how to fix they declared my warranty null and void. I paid an outside air engineer to find the problems and KB wanted to caulk some air vents and call it done. I'm now fixing my home and they continue to send me threatening letters. DO NOT BUILD WITH THEM!

BAD!
My wife and I bought a home from KB about 3 years ago. KB Home did anOK job on the house. But they really screwed up the driveway, the sidewalks, my back patio and the landscaping. The concrete people didn't have a clue about pouring concrete. They poured in the rain. Also, the concrete finishers must have either been drunk, or really hungover. I complained about it quality of the work. So they sent over some numbnut who put ardex over the concrete to straighten it up. Now the ardex is coming up. Consequently, I have to get all the ardex up, which will cost plenty. After that, I'm still stuck with the same lousy concrete work that I had before They "fixed" it. Just Bad!

Then there's the landscaping. They just threw the sod down on top of rock, no topsoil, nothing. Anyone ever try to grow a decent looking lawn on rock? I am!
I've been in the building industry over 40 years. I have never seen such a pathetic excuse for a home builder. And I have worked for plenty. Every time I tried to get something fixed, they sent some amateur out who ultimately made the problem twice as bad. Now, unfortunately, we are stuck with the pitiful results. Honestly, I'm truly sorry I ever heard two letters: KB.

Lack of professionalism
My experience with KB Homes has been very difficult and frustrating. Since the beginning of this building process, communication has been the biggest issue within' the company. It took us 11 months to have our home built. I have spoken to customer service reps and supervisors about the continuous issues that we are having in our home. I have received no feedback as to when these items will be taken care of nor does anyone respond to my outreach. When I'm outside my home, KB Home won't even look at me knowing the issues and concerns I have regarding my home that was built by their employer. I may take legal actions if these items aren't addressed because I was informed that issues within' my home were covered by the companies warranties.

The worst buying experience ever.
When I decided to purchase my house through KB homes, I was working with Kristine Blair. I was lied to about when the house was going to be completed. There sales reps swindle you into putting your money down and try to force you to using there Lender, when I went to look at the closing costs KB Home were around 11k and when I told them, I have my own lender there attitudes changed. I pulled out of the deal due to this and also the lengthy build times and lost my 5 thousand dollars over this. Be aware, I have heard numerous stories about them and still decided to use them and now I have lost out of a lot of money and still no house. I don't want anyone to make the same mistake as I did.
