I can fit into my pre-baby jeans, and I feel great!
I've tried elimination diets, slow-carb, low-carb, and a little keto. They worked for the short term but weren't sustainable for me, so when I came off of them, I gained all the weight back and some. My fear was that I would only keep getting bigger and have no control over my weight.
When I first joined MyBodyTutor, I hoped I would come out with ripped abs and could wear cropped shirts to show off my flat belly. Although I do not yet have ripped abs, I have made progress and now feel I have all the tools I need to get there in time as I slowly change my mindset and habits.
I can fit into my pre-baby jeans and feel good about my ongoing health journey. I lost almost 15 pounds and 9 1/2 inches - 4 1/2 inches from my waist!
What changed? It really comes down to the mindset. MyBodyTutor helps people change their mindset, which in turn changes their habits, which in turn changes more than just their weight.
If you're thinking about joining, I suggest opening yourself up for change, and if you do, the change will be positive and will impact more than just your weight.
Before starting with MyBodyTutor, I was in what felt like a never-ending rut. I had gained a lot of weight during my 1st pregnancy. My son was 7 getting ready to turn 8, and I was starting to wonder if this was just going to be my forever struggle.
I was starting to wonder if it would just be easier to accept that I was never going to achieve my physical goals vs seeing the years pass by and feeling like my goals were like this all illusive carrot that I could never reach. I was feeling defeated.
I don't remember a time in my life, even as a kid, that I wasn't "trying" some new fad diet. The more recent things I have done were Keto, 75 Hard, a combination of Keto and Paleo, and Whole30. I feel that the biggest thing that was missing was the mindset piece.
I heard about MyBodyTutor through Brandon Turner on BiggerPockets, but it still took me a long time to sign up. I kept telling myself that I just needed to get focused and committed and that I could do it on my own.
When I finally joined, my hopes were that I could close out the year having actually gotten closer to my physical goals instead of feeling like I had let another year go by without having made any progress.
Early on in my journey with Toni, my coach, she asked me a question. She said, "I know you have a lot of fears surrounding not accomplishing your goals, but do you ever imagine what it would feel like if you accomplished your goal?" Until that moment, it hadn't occurred to me that I was dwelling on my imminent failure as opposed to the possibility of success.
And as soon as I had that realization, I started visualizing what it would feel like to hit my goal. That one shift helped to get rid of a lot of fear and anxiety that was complicating a lot of things for me.
I didn't even realize that there were things that were holding me back and keeping me from accomplishing my goals that I wasn't even aware of. There were things that Toni brought to my attention that I would never have seen if it had not been brought to my attention.
I accomplished the goal I had set for myself on Thursday, December 16th, 2021. I lost 30 lbs by tuning into myself and my body.
Going into 2022 was the first time that I can remember not obsessively setting multiple weight-related goals for the upcoming year. And it wasn't because I don't have a vision for progress that I would like to continue making physically. I do. I am currently training for a marathon. I also want to do an obstacle race this year, along with fun hikes and other fun physical activities with my family. But I realized that in the past, the goals were rooted in a belief that where and who I currently am wasn't good enough. That belief wasn't serving me.
I feel more aware of my mindset and my self-talk and the progress that I am aspiring towards in my life is centered on being present and having fun with my journey rather than using it as a standard of measurement as to whether or not I am good enough.
I am continually striving towards reinforcement of the core habits of eating for hunger and mindfully. I feel like I have a great foundation and support system because of my journey with Toni and MyBodyTutor.
What makes MyBodyTutor different from all the other companies out there is that their emphasis isn't placed on the "right" or "wrong" foods. The emphasis is on awareness. Awareness regarding the reasons we eat, awareness around our mindset, awareness around guilt and shame that create an unhealthy relationship with ourselves and food. Something I am still having to remind myself about is the fact that "food is just food." Eating one type of food over another isn't good or bad, it doesn't make ME good or bad either. It just is what it is.
My recommendation for others is to not let your vision of your future self be an illusive carrot that you never feel you get any closer to. The confidence and joy that this journey has given me has been worth everything it has taken to get here. You are capable. If I could do it, anyone can.
I love MyBodyTutor! The coaching is amazing. I love the personalized feedback. I can feel my coach nudging me, which is good. I don't feel like I'm dieting, but more like I'm changing what I choose to eat. It's hard to describe, but it's good. :) I would highly recommend the program!
Exercise had never been a problem for me, so I knew it wasn't my movement that was the problem. It was my relationship with food. I have done Whole30 and loved the results, but it wasn't sustainable. Intermittent fasting has been a great tool for me, but I was still restricting and overeating. I needed to find something that I could do every day that I enjoyed. No restrictions, just tools.
In November of 2020, after 6 months of drinking and snacking (and with my four children home from school), I was at my wit's end with the same question... "Why can't I follow through and do the work to get these 5-10 pounds off?"
Before, I could eat whenever, whatever, and then overexercise to come back into balance. I had just turned 51 and started to notice that it wasn't working anymore. My biggest struggle was mindless eating and drinking—not being in the moment and enjoying everything around me. I wasn't sure if this approach would work, but, like I said, I was at my wit's end and needed help.
I started Googling the mindset and psychology of weight loss. I stumbled onto MyBodyTutor, and I remember I had a few free emails (I can't remember exactly). I struggled with spending money on something I thought I should be able to do by myself, but I decided to give it to myself as a Christmas gift, and I joined.
I was hoping to lose 10 pounds and conquer my snacking, sugar, and drinking habits!! I lost 5 pounds, and yes, that is very exciting, but my biggest and best takeaway is my relationship with food and eating for longevity. My favorite thing is 'the pause.' I will use that forever. It was life-changing for me.
I no longer fear weekends, holidays, or vacations because my coach, Amy, gave me tools to help me change my mindset about food and how it makes me feel. As my time went on, I realized that it wasn't necessarily about my weight. I wanted to feel great. I am now able to go into any situation and ask myself (the pause) how I want to feel. I have lost a few more pounds since my time ended.
Amy really helped me develop my fasting schedule and what foods I should be eating during my eating window to make me feel best. Looking back, it's the relationship you build with your coach. It's so personal! Amy's feedback was a HUGE part of my success. I also valued the emails from Adam and the daily encouragements. I learned so much about myself, and this has trickled into other parts of my life, not just food and weight loss.
I have tried another company based on the psychology of weight loss. After 2 weeks, I realized I was just a number and that the coaching wasn't specifically for my needs. If you’re looking for a program, stop. Because MyBodyTutor is all you need to reach your goals! It is 100% worth it!!!! I loved the accountability and the personalization.
I joined MyBodyTutor hoping to improve my relationship with food. I was an emotional and mindless eater. The MyBodyTutor program exceeded my expectations! I learned how to separate my emotions from eating and no longer “roam through the cupboards” looking for something to relieve stress. Laurie is a fantastic coach and cheerleader with a ton of knowledge and awesome resources. MyBodyTutor is more than a going through program, it is also about building a great relationship.
