Netflix hype you can keep the DVD's as long as you want and no late fee but why would you want to do that when the big selling point is you can get as many DVD's as your heart desires just by simply mailing back the postage paid DVD as soon as your done? What they don't tell you is that the average turn around time from shipping you the DVD, you getting it, you sending it back the next day, them getting it and sending you another is six days. There are on average thirty days a month so the most DVD's you can get a month is five. Then there is their poor quality control of sending out unplayable DVD's due to scratches or cracks. I average at least one of these a month so take your five down to four. Sure they will send you another after you tell them the problem with it but go back to the turn around time I mentioned earlier. Now I mentioned in the beginning that I get two DVD's out at a time but that doesn't mean that I will get two DVD's at a time from them even when I sent the two prior DVD's back at the exact same time. I don't know who is to blame here for this one, be it the US postal system or if Thing1 and Thing 2 work for Netflix and each processes my returned DVD's differently. Regardless of who is to blame for that it changes how many DVD's you will get a month. I average between eight and nine DVD's received a month and of that at least one is unplayable so I am down to seven to eight DVD's I can actually watch. Now the cost. I pay $11.99 for the privilege of having two DVD's out at a time and I religiously send them back the very next day so I can get the most bang for my buck. So going with the high of eight (honestly closer to seven) playable DVD's a month at the cost of $11.99 I am paying $1.50 per DVD, Redbox is $1.50 and they have new releases weeks before Netflix. Now that price goes up if you are only getting one DVD out at a time to $2.00 per DVD based on the average of four playable DVD's a month. The only single benefit to a Netflix DVD plan is to see movies that have long left the rent que of your local Redbox.
Finally the latest stunt from Netflix, the switching of the five star rating system to a binary rating system is really the last straw for me. This is obviously a move to make things for the millennials user friendly, don't want to overwork their brains with that "old school" thing called thinking. After all any window licker can make a yes or no decision. I liked the star rating and from the number of stars shown on movies based on my ratings I could easily target what to watch. Now with the new mindless rating system I will no longer have that simple way to target what I might want to watch but now will have to read the synopsis and try to decide from it if it is a movie I want to watch.
In short stay away from the DVD plans as they are not worth the cost unless you are after old movies long gone from your local Redbox que.
I have used Netflix to watch many, many cable shows I never had the chance to see when Netflix first aired - series like The Sopranos and Nip/Tuck. Netflix's inventory includes many shows I enjoyed the first time and want to watch again in sequence like The Office and Parenthood. It's also good for viewing shows I never paid attention to when they were new but want to watch once hearing the hype later.
I appreciate the short and sweet online descriptions for shows and movies and find the site incredibly easy to navigate. I choose not to rank what I have seen because I know many suggestions for things I might like would follow.
I know it's probably crazy but I also use Netflix for research. (Yes, I know about google and others made for this purpose.) Often, we will see an actor and wonder what he or she was in before. A quick search on Netflix almost always gets us an answer.
I have been hearing about rate increases the last couple days. Although I love getting the little red envelope in the mail, I am not sure I will continue the disk plan if rates will affect it too much.
Another issue I have is the availability of newer titles. For example, I have been waiting for "Allied" since last November and for "Fences" since last December. Delays of eights months and counting are ridiculous. Could Netflix be purposely causing all these delays to reduce postal expense or perhaps in hopes of increasing their streaming only subscriptions -- or both?
I kinda wish they still had their contract with showtime and sony though. They lost a lot of good shows and movies when they let those two drop off. I also wish all the movies you can get on DVD could also be streamed. My only problem with them is that they charge twice as much to obtain DVD's as they do to stream. I wish they'd go back to the old prices or at least add their DVD selection to streaming. I also wish they would let you stream more then two devices at one time. If you can have up to five devices, you should be able to stream those five devices if its your wish.
Other then that, this site is awesome and I don't even use cable or buy DVD's anymore! It saves on space in my house as well as money just to watch netflix and hulu.
Netflix is a really great site since it has thousands of movies and TV shows to choose from. I personally really like the fact that it has no commercials. I think that Netflix should update their site daily so that the viewers can watch a show that was shown the night before. I also wish that Netflix was more affordable since the prices are a little high. But overall it's a fantastic site and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
I've been a client of many years now and i just cant believe that we live in a society that could not give a $#*! about CUSTOMER SERVICE,, IT USED TO BE "the CUSTOMER is always right" that's a load of crap.
NETFLIX has enough nerve to double and triple it's monthly payments which went on for several months in 2017... we confronted them about it and Netflix gave us 2 months free for all payments they red's (it was more than 2 months that's for sure it was several monthe) and they said to get rest from your bank... needless to say the bank said they were foolish and the laughed us out the door saying "that's a NETFLIX problem" we called NETFLIX and they refused to pay, we sucked up the cost (of all those payments) and moved on.
FLASH FORWARD TO TODAY...
Same thing happens since January 2018 to present day NETFLIX has taken not 1... not 3... YES COUNTEM A RECORD SEVEN TIMES, SEVEN PAYMENTS OF 13.99 THATS 97.93!
After November 2017 we were "assured that this second account was closed and never to be opened again)... somehow this acct was re opened and NETFLIX charged us. We tried to explain to VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT that that acct somehow was reopened after we'd been ASSURED it wouldnt be and ive asked for something in return for them remove 97.93 (2018) and well over a hundred dollars in 2017.
Now NETFLIX flat out refuseS to budge any not assume any responsibility and basically laughed as I asked for a refund or exchange for a few months free considering that with all payments they'd taken would be over a year free. They refuse to even give a month free.
So would I recommend NETFLIX not after I found out they DO NOT CARE about their CUSTOMERS, WE'RE JUST $$$$$$$ SIGNS.
NOW IM ON A MISSION TO TELL EVERYONE I MEET NEVER TO BECOME A MEMBER OF NETFLIX... TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE TERRIBLE
SIGN DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER
Then there was the Narcos fiasco.
Netflix already had a 60 segment drama about Pablo Escobar made in Colombia of very good quality. Netflix decides to spare no expense to make their own version seen through the eyes of 2 clueless US DEA agents?!
The alleged formula for suggestions base on your ratings of other films is a bad joke. I do not have to rate anything on Amazon and they manage to get my book and movie suggestions spot on. I always have to turn off the "chosen for you" because it is always junk they want to dump on me rather than reflecting my choices.
I do not like their original programming. HBO and Showtime are much better.
Nevertheless, for daring, innovation, originality and foreign films it is brilliant. Also incredibly inexpensive. Did I forget customer service? Terrific. Some helpful person answers the phone instantly.
When I finally contacted a CSR I was told because of some licensing issue with my region and due to the fact that a Spanish company buys the rights, that's the reason we get that particular feed. That was the dumbest thing I ever heard because Netflix just grouped together entirely different countries and nationalities and gave them one product.
I had 4 screens but changed it to 2 and really the only reason I still have Netflix is because I cancelled my cable and I at least get to see The Walking Dead in English. If the language issue is fixed one day that would be awesome, but for now Netflix is a disappointment on my side of the globe.
The cost of for rights to streaming content is very competitive and expensive. Netflix still leads, and you pay $8-10/mo for streaming, I think currently about 4,000 titles, and increasingly original Netflix production.
Here's the goldmine everyone seems to be ignoring being so fixated on streaming -- If you want a great depth and breadth of content, Netflix DVD library is second to none! 93,000 titles! And access to New Releases, 9-18 months before Netflix go to streaming, if at all. I pay $12/mo for 2 DVD's at a time. I might watch 8 DVD's month at this flat fee. If they were all new releases you could use Amazon PPV and pay $6/pop and the same 8 movies would cost you $48 in a month.
So for $20/mo I get the best streaming service@ $8/mo for one TV and 12/mo for 2 DVD's at a time. So for $20/mo I get access to 100,000 titles! No streaming service alone will ever be able to match this simply because Netflix bought DVD rights cheap for years before the competition woke up and have an incomparable library of TItles - 93,000 plus access to New Releases on DVD. Streaming is great for skimming the surface. DVD's for going deep. Can't imagine where you can spend $20/mo for a comparable value of nearly 100,000 titles! Dust of your DVD player or go buy one.
As we began to embrace these cut backs we put together a list of websites to watch movies and/or tv on to little or no cost. We kept in mind a number of things such as affordability, reliability, clarity, and much more.
I personally think that this site is the best when it comes to online movie/tv screening because it is very easy to use and aesthetically pleasing. It is a very visual website and you can find just about every movie you can think of. There is a very low monthly price which is a con because nothing beats a free site, however it is affordable. I would definitely recommend this site to a friend.
I found three web 2.0 sites that people can use to watch their favorite tv shows and movies. I took into account the websites' affordability, accessibility, reliability, and more to create my reviews.
Netflix is very user friendly. A con of the website is that you have to subscribe to the monthly fee of $7.99 before even using the site which means there are no free options. However after subscribing you can watch unlimited episodes and movies online. A pro of the site is that it also offers the option of watching through PS3. Wii, Xbox, Mobile, Tablets, Smart TVs, and Bluray players. I would definitely recommend this website to a friend due to all of the options the site provides.
It has a great web player on Safari, runs on HTML5 so no Flash which is good. The app on the iPhone and iPad works just as well. Simple player and functional. Netflix is rarely down for me. It's overall a good deal if you don't have high expectations for movies.

I'm updating my review for Netflix to be average now. Ever since they removed the star ratings, I have no way of knowing whether or not I'd like a movie through any basis. While I wouldn't mind the thumbs up/down system, Netflix DOESN'T show what percentage of people rated it either thumbs up or down. It just gives an ambitious broken number of "92%" match or "77%" match which tells me absolutely NOTHING about a movie.
I remember titles that were rated very poorly OR they weren't in my interest, which most are now given a 90%+ match to me. This is completely untrue and crap. Although this isn't a deal-breaker to me, I'm just going to check the rating on IMDB instead. I don't know who at Netflix thought this was a good idea!
Not everyone mindlessly binge watches bad movies all day. Since Netflix's selection is already pretty mediocre but decent enough for the monthly price, I have no complaints. What I'm not happy about is my inability to see which movies are actually MY taste. I don't need them to tell me what I "may" like because they're wrong.
So, in summary - give netflix your money every month and you'll enjoy every moment of the new series released to your devices. There's no debating the matter. The service is far better than Amazon Prime, Now TV or Apple TV (ive used them all) and wayyyy better than getting a DVD delivered or going to the local video shop (awww, remember those days?)
I do however, hate the new Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down rating system like so many do. A lot of the things I watch, I don't even bother to rate anymore unless I write a review. The 5 star system was great and 6 starts would have been even better. I don't know why big corporations think Netflix have to keep changing something that works just fine. IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!
Customer Service is very, very hard to get in touch with. It takes a lot of time and effort to get connected to a real human being. Once you do, they are actually very nice and helpful. (He was even an American without an accent!) I do not like the fact that Netflix obviously does not want to be bothered by their own customers.
On shows that I am thinking about watching, I'd like to see the overall star rating for all viewers.
One last thing, I would love an option to click "stop showing this". Sometimes I will start a movie or show that I end up hating and will never finish but have to see that show on the section that says "Continue watching".
Overall, the best deal for the money but all of the changes made recently are negative.
Suggestions:
- Please change the rating system to make it so: you can turn it off, you can show the AVERAGE USER REVIEW (most people would probably use this), the Netflix recommended for you rating (which is often inaccurate), and the IMDB score if possible (not sure about the legality of using their name on your site as a main feature)
- Put some kind of clear and immediate way to remove something from your Continue Watching list if you don't want to continue watching it
- Please add more genres in the Browse section
- Make it a point to get more Academy Award films (maybe even make it a genre, and then sort by award section)
