I switched to Pets Best Insurance after receiving and email from Pemco, our home and auto insurer, that we could receive a discount. While I only had one slight issue with Trupanion over the years of them insuring our furbabies and there are some advantages that Trupanion has over Pets Best (Payment is quicker and I could have my vet submit the invoice directly to Trupanion and then only paid the difference). Things I really appreciate about Pets Best include the lower prices for better coverage. The availability of a wellness plan. Coverage of exams. The awesome customer service. All of these things make up for having to wait a little longer for the reimbursement. I definitely would make the change again and when we get our next pup will be signing her up asap. I am so impressed I recently put a post on FB to detail my cost savings and do some comparisons with Trupanion. Including the fact they covered Dentals (ours was covered partially by our wellness plan and partially by the accident and illness coverage). I recommend at lest doing some research if you are looking for pet insurance.
I decided to invest in pet insurance after enduring an emotionally taxing and tragic experience with my previous animal companion. Long story short (and I won’t be surprised to be judged by my choice to allow my cat outside), my best boy had some unconfirmed yet assuredly violent encounter while outside. After spending $5K+ in vet care, there were still unfortunate complications and I had to make the difficult decision to let him go. It was really stressful and I was already embarrassed about how much money I spent in attempt to save him.
When I adopted my next companion, I decided to invest in a pet insurance policy. Compared to what I spent on my demised animal, the cost was insignificant. Turns out, something happened with my new boy and he came home with a fractured canine tooth. Removal by a veterinary dental specialist was not cheap. Fortunately, my Pets Best insurance policy paid out, protecting me from all the emotional drama associated with unplanned vet bills.
Based on this experience, I plan to maintain the policy into the future. I can only speak to my own experience, but from my perspective, Pets Best did right by me.
Not impressed in the least. I feel like I am being penalized for rescuing a dog. After spending over $900.00 for the policy and thousands at the vet for things not covered as they are considered pre-existing (though they say they are covered on the list) then to pay over $1,065.00 for spaying and tooth extractions and then only get reimbursed $318.00 or so I am wondering why I would keep paying for this policy? The extractions were denied as I could not prove the dog I adopted in November had her teeth cleaned in the past 13 months. How many rescued/adopted can? It seems to me that everything going forward would be considered pre-existing and be denied. Then to not even have the spaying covered seems crazy. They said they paid the wellness amount? You try to do right by rescuing and adopt, don't shop and get punnished. On a positive note I would say their processing time is acceptable.
Love this insurance, signing up was incredibly easy and their claim process is as simple as can be. Have a visit to the vet, walk out with an itemized receipt and submit that in a simple photo through the app for Pets Best to process. They have covered all aspects that were stated in the welcome packet and have stayed true to that throughout my pet's entire life so far. They have extremely fair rates and normal processing times for an insurance claim. Everything is paid out through direct deposit and they update through the app for processing and payment claims and what is covered and why and how much they are paying. Works like typical health insurance for humans with deductibles and such. Fantastic customer service to answer questions along the way and couldn't be happier to have this peace of mind that if my pet needs medical help I am not worried about how I will pay for it.
We are very happy with our illness/injury policy. Even after the deductible was paid it covered half of the bill at the ER at the beginning of Memorial Day weekend. You know they never get sick or need the vet until it’s closed… We adopted 3 calico sisters at 6 weeks old. They are almost 1 now and they are into everything, fly up and down stairs and are in general daredevil stunt girls. Dolly presented with an urinary tract infection very early Saturday on the holiday weekend. The ER bill was $791. This was our first experience with a claim and we are more than pleased. It paid half of the ER bill which is nothing to sneeze at. Well one of the Queens of Country (Dolly, Loretta & Crystal) has met her deductible for the year. Also the follow up with her regular vet is covered at 90% due to it being related to the covered illness… we cover 3 cats for less than $40 a month… which means the policy has already paid for itself… get it you will be happy you have it when you walk out of a veterinary ER.
I highly recommend this company. After my previous dog had cancer. I had insurance from another company, but the coverage was limited to a max amount per year and only covered about half of my expenses. With Pet's Best, I was able to customize my plan to give us the maximum coverage for my new dogs that I adopted at ages 6 & 8. I chose a higher deductible to keep my monthly premiums low. They are now 10& 12. I still pay for most of the smaller expenses, but unfortunately my 12 year old developed a cancerous liver tumor. I easily met my $1000 deductible with the diagnosis alone. My dog had the surgery and developed complications that required an extended hospital stay. The insurance paid 90% as agreed in my policy. My dog is alive and happy because of this coverage option. The processing took longer than the estimated 40 days, but I really can't complain. There's no way we could have paid for all those expenses. I am so thankful!
I am grateful to have Pets Best. I got the insurance just in case, but I sadly had to use it more than expected. My precious princess was sick and Pets Best took care of her bills after my deductible was met.
Including her prescriptions and specialist. Now my princess is healthy and happy again.
They have improved in the turnaround times of claims as well, but honestly I don’t mind waiting 40 days when I get a reimbursement of her medical bills.
I know per insurance get a bad wrapped that’s because most customers do not take the time to understand what they are getting. Do not be upset with the company for not doing your part to understand what you are buying.
Pets Best’s customer service has been great to work with and they have done so much to improved claim’s’ processing after difficult times during the worst of COVID.
Thank you Pets Best and their frontline employees for all the you do!! We will be with Pets Best for all of our insurance needs❤️!!
Like all insurance, it is a bet against disasters, but Pets Best was one of the best insurance companies I've ever dealt with. Having it provided me with a sense of security whenever I went to the vet. My sweet girl ended up getting a nasty type of lymphoma and having pet insurance meant that cost was no longer a deciding factor in treatment. Any time I had to submit a claim, it went smoothly, reimbursement was timely, and I was able to combine multiple visits in one claim. Anytime I called customer support, they were super responsive and helpful.
To top it off, I was so consumed by grief when my girl passed that I wasn't able to submit the final claims until months later. They saw the claim for euthanasia, canceled the plan (after reimbursing me for the claim) on the day of her death and refunded me the remainder of my payments. It was very touching that they took care of it for me and I didn't have to jump through helps.
They said my dog had pre Existing conditions which I know he did not. He’s only 14 weeks old and he fell off the bed and broke his arm. Then he had complications during surgery they called it a gastrin something with his intestines infection. Then my little girl had a claim and it was an emergency because all of a sudden she started going into this breathing attack and I had her for a solid two weeks and this never happened but then when I took her to the hospital they said oh she has a respiratory pre-existing condition total bs.
Then I got a very nice lady on the phone and she helped me with getting some back for the surgery but they definitely minus stuff off of it a ton of stuff saying it was related to his Pre-existing intestinal problem. He didn’t have one the surgery in the hospital is the only thing that was wrong with him if they gave him something there then that was not a pre-existing condition. I will be going to the board of insurance as I am not happy with what they decided. They decide what they want to pay this is not like your regular car insurance car insurance does not get to pick and choose these people pick and choose what they want to pay for. I paid $250 a month and my suggestion is keep your money because it does not help. We have been jacked around and now all of our dogs have pre-existing conditions know they are crazy.
After losing our 5-year-old Rottie unexpectedly to cancer this past March, we vowed to never feel trapped making health decisions and/or spending ridiculous amounts of money when emergencies happen, with our pet family members again. We recently added two adorable yellow lab brothers to our family. I researched a LOT of the companies and asked friends for input. We wanted a plan that had a good wellness option. Our first vet visit was on June 30th, (the Thursday before a Holiday Weekend, mind you), and our reimbursement was direct-deposited not even 5-business days later! I wish the wellness covered more, like intestinal parasite screening that cost us $46 per pet, and more vaccinations, but alas, the compromise for choosing our deductible and amount reimbursed is wonderful for accidents and illness. Although I pray we NEVER have to use that part, the comfort in knowing we have full coverage for our babies is such peace of mind. Thank you, Pets Best for your ease and expediency so far with your insurance. We are very satisfied.
I have had Pet's Best insurance on my cat since he was born. I have had to use the insurance twice in the 5 years I've had him and both times have been exceptional. This past time he became very withdrawn and didn't want to be touched. I was concerned he wasn't eating or drinking normally. Since it was a weekend, I had to take him to the emergency vet hospital which was NOT inexpensive! But knowing I had insurance took a great deal of anxiety out of the decision to have him seen instead of having to wait until Monday. After dropping him off at the hospital, I called Pet's Best to go over my coverage. The customer service rep was not only knowledgeable but also incredibly empathetic and compassionate. My claim was processed promptly and correctly and I received my reimbursement quicker than expected. I'm happy to say that Bailey is fine. He had a respiratory infection and was home with medication that night. I'm so relieved that I didn't have to hesitate to have him seen asap. Thank you Pet's Best for your service, compassion and efficient reimbursement process.

I have 3 cats insured & file claims rarely. Was charged 2 deductibles for 1 episode of illness & when I balked at that overcharge, the rep told me "that's the way all insurance works when you pass the renewal date." I have worked in health care & with ins co for decades & that's NOT the way ins works. When a patient starts a treatment program in Dec, the ins co does NOT charge a 2nd deductible b/c your program doesn't end till the 2nd wk of Jan. When you switch to a different 'level of care' like otpt programming, then they charge. If you relapse 2 mos later, new 'episode of illness,' then they charge. Now I feel cheated at a time I am grieving the loss of my baby who got seriously ill on March 20 & died June 10th. I have loved the communications I've had with their reps(reason for the 4 stars,) until this point, but now I don't know what to do. Except submit this review until I feel less fragile over the loss of my 'Sweetest Heart.'
So I *was* having an okay experience with Pets Best until recently, when I unfortunately had to rehome my dog through a rescue. I contacted Pets Best to specifically ask if I could transfer the insurance to the rescue (which is small and operates out of the owners' home). I was told I could. This was particularly important because my dog has medical needs and influenced my decision to go through a rescue, where I could be sure he would get great care. When I initiated the transfer, however (after the dog was already with the rescue), I was told that I couldn't transfer the insurance after all as Pets Best couldn't insure a "commercial entity." I explained that aside from the fact that I been told they COULD insure a rescue, the dog was residing in someone's personal home, along with their personal pets, and that the rescue owner was willing to assume individual ownership of the policy if needed. I was told that if that was the case, they COULD transfer the policy (I also asked that particular rep to please confirm that they definitely weren't able to insure the rescue - she said she would get back to me the same day, but I never heard from her again.) When I then tried to initiate the transfer to an individual owner, I was THEN told that the underwriter refused to transfer the policy - even though it was to an individual in a personal residence - because the residence shares a business address. So, in addition to providing incorrect information on TWO occasions, Pets Best also penalized a hard-working rescue who saves money and dogs by running their very small nonprofit out of their home. I told the last rep I talked to that if they had only given me correct information initially, we could have simply done an individual transfer. She had the gall to tell me that would be "insurance fraud" - really??? So people who run a rescue out of their homes aren't allowed to insure their pets? I was apologized to and told multiple times that "coaching" of Pets Best employees had occurred to make sure this didn't happen again - which is great, but doesn't help my dog or the rescue AT ALL, and does nothing to address the problem or rectify the mistake that THEY made. (By the way, the fine print in their handbook simply says the policy CAN be transferred - it does NOT contain any of the loophole information they jumped on as an excuse to drop coverage.) I have two other pets who are insured through them that I will be removing and insuring through someone else. I can't continue to support a company whose clearly jumps at an opportunity to drop a pet from coverage and spurns an opportunity to support a rescue, and has left a medically fragile dog uninsured due to their mistakes. Ironically, they even have a "community involvement" section on their website and list several rescues they claim to support. They also claim to have "unsurpassed service" - if this is "unsurpassed service", I'd really hate to see what mediocre service from them looks like. I'd really encourage you to look at one of the many other insurance companies that truly have a commitment to pets and their owners, and operate with compassion and integrity. Pets Best clearly does not.
Absolutely awful service. My brother UNEXPECTEDLY passed away recently so we called to inform the company we had taken over ownership of his dogs & needed to change the account over to our names + payment information. We were then told since we did not have paperwork stating our new ownership via him nor did we have power of attorney they would have to cancel the policy under his name immediately & we'd have to start a new policy. Then we asked if the preexisting issues that were covered under his policy {because he bought this shortly after adopting} if they would be covered. We were told no they would not. So anything having to do with his hips, kidneys & back would not be covered. They then told us this was because their policy changed. We have access to my brother's email as well as his Pets Best App where we found NOTHING stating needing a POA or paperwork being needed to transfer ownership to another person after someone passes in order to transfer the policy over. We have passed the policy onto our attorney whom will reach out to the company for breach of contract|malpractice & hopefully resolve the lies they have spewed by not honoring a policy when nothing could have prevented his death in the first place.
Pets Best was a fabulous choice for us! I cannot tell you how important it is to have pet insurance, and Pets Best has proven a clear winner for us. For coverage, ease of use, consistent feedback, and payment of claims I give it a 5 star rating! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We are so grateful for Pets Best. As a retired couple on a fixed income, we could never have afforded the vet bills we have had with our precious GSD pup without Pets Best insurance. We had hoped to never have to use it. We hoped our pup would never have health issues. But he did. Lots! He is so much better now. Thanks again to Pets Best for helping us through the first two years of our Maximus’ life. We are hopeful the worst is behind us and we look forward to a healthier future for our canine buddy. Pet insurance is a must. Don’t trust the cheapest. Trust the best! Pets Best.
We cannot thank you enough!
This was the first year that my newly diagnosed diabetic dog needed meds and treatment that would be covered. At first I was confused as to how it worked. In retrospect, I wish I had gotten a lower deductible plan but my monthly rate is very good. Once I had fulfilled my $500 deductible, Pet's Best DID begin to reimburse me at 80% for all applicable claims. It appeared that some had been missed but when I researched it on the phone with a very helpful person at Pet's Best, we discovered that the vet office had not submitted several claims. The problem was fixed and from that point on payment for claims has been efficiently received directly into my checking account from Pet's Best. So all in all, this has been a very good experience. While I'm not looking forward to the turnover of a new year with a $500 deductible and the fact that my insurance was raised $10 per month more than previously, I am still grateful that I will be able to afford my dog's medical needs now and in the future. Thanks!
This pet insurance company is great to work with! I have had reimbursements for my pets that are covered under this insurance as long as you follow the guidelines. Try to get your pet on this insurance before there are any issues that are diagnosed by the veterinarian. The younger the better. We started at puppy age. You are better off having this insurance than nothing at all. I started with having the highest priced full coverage which helped pay for office visits, specialist vet,spay/neuter,vaccinating, plus a surgery needed for my French Bulldog issue and after a year or two I did drop down to a lesser coverage plan that covers only major issues because of financial reasons. But that is good enough for me to know that I have peace of mind taking my pets to the vet for emergencies. I would absolutely recommend Pets Best insurance! Reimbursement does take about 4-6 weeks but it is well worth it! We are very happy customers!
First time bought insurance after reading tons of reviews and comparing other plans. Relatively more affordable policy. Hit or miss customer service. Had to call a few times to get answers to my questions. Claims took 40 days to complete and a few more days to get reimbursed. Had to submit my credit card statement in addition to receipt and medical record from vet. Also required 12 months medical record for initial claim. Too much especially if you have relatively healthy pet!!!! Very tedious. Mobile App doesn’t work well on apple phone. Decided to give it a shot a little longer after finally able to speak to a rep who treated us like valued customer. Hopefully process will get better by training staff to be more empathic and supportive. Need to hire more staff if they are receiving higher volume in order to lessen turn around time.
I love my pets, and I've always insured them. My friends use other insurance companies, and they've been surprised by incident or lifetime caps. When my friend's dog developed a heart condition, her insurance stopped covering her after a year.
That is NOT the case with Pets Best! They are upfront about what they cover, and they don't try to weasel out of paying for covered procedures. During the time I've had Pets' Best (three years) two of my elderly cats developed terminal illnesses a year apart. Both required thousands of dollars in care. The first cat required several visits to the vet which cost us about $7,000. The other developed a mass in his intestine, and he required surgery and hospitalization, followed by chemo. Thanks to Pets Best, I didn't have to worry. I paid the vet and Pets Best reimbursed me for 90%, per our plan agreement.
I can't recommend Pets Best enough. Thanks to them, I know I can be there for my pets when they need me the most. I am so thankful for a company that is honest and transparent, and that I can rely upon.
Prior to retirement, I was an account manager in a large employee benefits company. I recognize that calculating the deductible on a person's medical benefit plan is different from the way Pets Best calculates its plan deductible. With a $250 deductible, each service that applies to the deductible also has coinsurance applied. So, if you have 90% coinsurance on your plan, your deductible is applied minus 10% coinsurance. I don't mind that type of calculation, but it should be outlined in the plan documents, so new subscribers understand that the deductible is not a first dollar calculation. Other than that, my 4 claims were adjudicated quickly and correctly. I am waiting for my check in the mail, as I do not want to give my bank account number for a direct deposit. So far, this is an excellent plan. I would suggest the use of the word "coinsurance" and not copay.
