Why did I even use RAC insurance. My son was on the policy as provisional licence holder. He passed his test. And now he would never drive this car again. So I though leaving him on would not be a big deal. Well, RAC said that I had to remove him or update his details, or my insurance would be void. And they charged me totalt 250 for removing him from the Policy. Never having RAC insurance again. Would not recommend them.
I have just received a renewal, with no changes on my side. An increase of 43%.

I called them to see if it was a mistake, and no, no mistake. I think they are hoping that I didn't see the email and it auto-renewed.
There is no loyalty with RAC, they are sharks. If you insure with them, make sure you do not have auto-renew turned on!
Wouldn't touch them , had 10 months left on insurance which cost 130 had to cancel due to car engine failure, they took £50 cancellation fee which was held for 30 days if went back to them. New quote was dearer on comparison sites but tried for ages to get through on phone to see if could at least match but no answer.
So went elsewhere loosing the £50 im now one customer who won't return
Its a nightmare to deal with, sneaky charges, trying to buy new car and all hell break loose. Price for renewal increasing 100% so no point of being loyal.
Just phoned RAC insurance to change anticipated mileage increase on car. Advised more than £50 to change including admin fee. Asked if this could be clarified as ridiculous amount and at that point the person I spoke to put the phone down ! No means of emailing them, have to go through the whole process again ! Looking at these poor reviews will probably change insurer completely and take the hit on the admin charge !
Following a minor motorcar accident in February, I had an issue with RAC Insurance, and therefore wrote to the CEO, Dave Hobday, for his comment on poor service. I marked the envelope Private and Confidential - this was three weeks ago.
I used the Royal Mail Signed For service, and therefore know that my letter was delivered, on 17 March.
Now, nearly three weeks later, I have HEARD NOTHING - not even an acknowledgement.
How rude is that! What a way to run a business.
I have now written a personal letter to the Chairman of RAC Limited, Rob Templeman, and copied in the Director General of the Association of British Insurers.
How can they assume that I have accepted a renewal quote!!! And then try to take money from my bank!!! Rubbish and underhand. Saved £200 with 1st direct. Forget! They also kept me waiting 5 hours when I broke down recently gave up and got a taxi home to return next day to car - cost me £30 !! No compansation!!!
RAC customer relations you cant speak to them on the phone, they do not call back when you leave a message, when they do finslly call you back they deny any responsibility as a mear broker (administrator) to call the underwriter or claims depts for any update. Will continue to charge you for s vehicle that was written off for over 6 months even if your claim is NON Fault, they may not know the real definition. They dont listen to or treat Loyal customers fairly. I was blamed for not asking for comprehensive Plus in 2019, without them providing proof to this on a complaint, so in 2020, 2021 Did not have to offer. DiRE Customer service, and insurance, got passed pillar to post 170 calls, emails passed around to call everyone myself. Hours of calls, stress. Avoid use Admiral instead as they dont change policy details to get more our of you and provide less. Like Comprehensive Plus.. Avoid, avoid, avoid. 1 star is too much
Was with RAC but changed vehicle to a lesser group car, advised RAC of car change but the premium went up significantly. Got straight onto comparison site and got a much cheaper quote so took that up and cancelled immediately with RAC (within minutes). Now being pursued for all sorts of cancellation charges and admin fees even though the policy never really activated. AVOID AVOID AVOID
Cheap on the way in and then WAY more expensive than 90% of the field when we changed the car. Con artists. : o /
I had an accident ,and was insured ,with RAC ,they are absolutely useless ,they pass you over ,to Minster Law ,who are also hopeless ,you get nowhere ,dealing with either ,do not insure your car with RAC insurance ,you get no service whatsoever.
RAC CAR INSURANCE are absolutely SHOCKING. No people skills, inconsiderate and rude. I have made over 15 phone calls and got no where. Ive have been dealing with an incident which has been going on for over 3/4 months now and no help or call back as promised several times. Absolute joke. Just put phone down and tell me it’s not their problem. I pay your company don’t I?!? I ring because I need help as no one was getting back to me and no correct information was passed on to companies along side. SHAMBLES. AVOID. NEVER AGAIN. Instead of paying my £650 excess and having a curtsey car to get it sorted, I’m now having to go with out a car for a couple of days and pay and sort it all myself.
A formal complaint is being written and exposing the truth of this cunning insurance company. I will not be renewing or using again.
I will say the RAC BREAKDOWN SERVICE has been a fantastic experience I can not fault. They are the ones who prob keep the company going. 10/10.
I have just spoken to a lady named Trish from the rac insurance she works for the Sunderland call centre she was absolutely fantastic she was so helpful and very easy and friendly to get on with she is a credit to the rac insurance company can't praise this lady so much
20 minutes on the phone and still unable to cance let policy... it is designed to be as difficult as possible.

I telephoned and cancelled my policy with the RAC on 15/02/2022 as it fell due for renewal on 18/02/2022 as I no longer own the vehicle I then received on the 19/02/2022 a letter threatening to report me to debt collection agency as I still owed £35.62 this was a final installment due on 17/02/2022 (the day before my policy ended) so was I suppose to cancel on the day the policy fell due to renew and £ 20 admin fee for none payment, I rang to explain I had cancelled the policy 3 days before its due date and cancelled the D/D as I did not want it renewing and did not want the RAC able to take funds from MY BANK ACCOUNT, to be told they basically were not bothered would not budge and I had to pay, if not they would get a collections agency on to me BE VERY WARE OF THESE PEOPLE INSURE WITH SOMEONE ELSE.
Be very careful with RAC Insurance terrible service my renewal was due 18/02/2022 so I cancelled on 15.02.2022 and cancelled the direct debit I then got an arrears summons as the last payment was due of £ 15.62 on 17/02/2022 the day before the policy expired ( so was I supposed to cancel the policy on the day it was due to renew )plus £ 20.00 unpaid notice I rang to explain I had cancelled the Insurance on the 15/02/2022 and the direct debit (as anybody would) as the Insurance was not required and did not want the RAC being able to take funds from my account but go no assistance and still had to pay the £20.00 arrears notice.
I have had a terrible experience with this company. I rang several times and all they wanted to do was fob us off.
Part of our chimney had come off in the wind with damage to the tiles and a aerial which was ripped off.
They asked us to get our own contractor
As they couldn’t get anybody out !!!
We did and gave them a quote from the
Builder and they then said they would need to get back to us !!!
It’s over a week and we still have holes in our roof, part of chimney is missing and no television.
I would not recommend this insurance company to my worst enemy.

I made the mistake of buying rac car insurance. They made a mistake with my no claims bonus which affected my renewal. When I called them they said that a 3rd party they use had made the mistake and that I had to call them. I said my contract was with rac so they should sort it out, anyway they totally ignored me and transferred me to the 3rd party, been waiting 45 mins and still not got through. Once I get the 3rd party to sort the problem I'm then expected to ring rac back and get them to sort out my no claims issue. Well I got news for them, once I get the record sorted I'm taking my business elsewhere and if you want an easy life and lower blood pressure I suggest you do the same. Dreadful service
Took out a policy and changed my mind within 14days before it was due to start. Was also only 7 days after payment. Contacted RAC to cancel who informed me there would be a £25 charge to do so. So I’m stuck with it. God help me if I ever have to claim on it. Buyer beware RAC love the small print….
I think six days waiting to have a rear window screen to be fitted is a bit of a joke , I’ve only got a ford not something form mars .
But they asked for the excess money in about 10 minutes .
