Most of the messages I get on Roomster.com are from people who have not even looked at the space that I'm offering. They're more like e-blasts to everyone who is subscribed to Roomster. Roomster are looking for rooms in NJ, in Brooklyn, in Queens, in Long Island, but only 5% are looking for spaces in Manhattan. That means that you have some button that bypasses their reading the reading of the profile, and goes straight to an e-blast from subscribers desperate to find a space.

Garbage app and charged for services not rendered.
Wouldn't recommend this to my enemy. The user face is terrible. Customer service is trash. False service rendered. Extremely disappointed in it. Just an expensive Craiglist. Starting with needing to override the social media requirement, being required to authorize my ID, then finally getting into the account to discover the filter options are too limited, and have an inbox full of spam. The map doesn't allow a zoom. Most of the ads are spam and lack pictures. I'm clicking entire unit, but being shown room shares. Every time I click something, I have to reload the previous page, and all the results change. Both from desktop and cell. In the first few minutes I'd already receive 5 spam messages. Super disappointed. I would like a refund of both my membership and ID verification.

As a California resident would like to have all my data purged from this account, but the company said that this is what I agreed to in their forced terms and conditions and was unwilling to correct the situation. Which is in violation of the Privacy Act.

Room mate wanted
I was contacted by this one member and we were texting back and forth. She wanted money right away without meeting the person and without seeing the place. I was a bit suspicious that she kept asking for money. Another thing that made me suspicious was when i asked where it was and she gave me the city but later in the conversation she gave me another location for the same place which seemed funny. I suspect it might be a scam. I haven't heard from this person since. This needs to be looked into.

I've been using several sites and platforms to look for roommates and this was the first one that paywalls at every turn. I understand the one for ID verification, but also your price for that was noticeably higher than your competitors.

But really, charging to message people? I understand the interactions are happening within your platform, and you would then need to support the web servers to upkeep the service. But this kind of is a level of financial gatekeeping that roommate searching (and reality in general) has a problem with.

I am a huge yoga addict and I go to the studio almost every day to get myself straightened out. My instructor told me that there was an extra room in the studio that used to be used as a meditation room but not many people were signing up for that class so he was looking into other options to see what he could do with the room. I suggested he rent it out on Roomster, I used it to find a roommate for my place when I moved here, it’s a really great site and an easy way to list rooms for rent. A few weeks after listing the room he found a really sweet girl to rent the room and it seems to be working out just great.

The way you have your site set up is not ideal
The way you have your site set up is not ideal. First time using it and I didn't know how to input my profile information with the way you have it set up. It has me as 18 years old when in fact I'm 46. I messaged you about it, got a response but tried to follow the instructions he gave me, but it would not let me change it. If you just had it set up were you can type it in or at least go back a screen and change it before completing your profile. It is very frustrating!

Nickel and dime you and ended up with NO success
So I was directed to this site by a person on Craigslist sho wanted me to register with Roomster. Okay, no problem. Except when you go to register it's $15 to validate your ID and then you don't really get anything until you actually purchase a subscription. So I'm into this for $20. No big deal, but
I didn't find ANYTHING that met my needs. So I went back to Craigslist and found exactly what I was looking for. Roommster is a big failure in my book.

Terrible Experience
This website is terrible and very misleading! I signed up for a 5 day trail period which was $7.95. Roomster lead you to believe that you are paying for just those specific amount of days. Turns out that they just automatically renew your account with a monthly subscriptions. The way they operate is really SHADY considering that there is no notices before or after the charges, not even in an email like most normal and ethical businesses would do. I found out 2 months later that they charged me $24.95 twice; 5 days after my trail period ended and then again on October 18th. Their customer service is trash. Most online subscriptions that I have dealt with usually refund charges even if you canceled the subscription after the billing period, especially if you were not aware. The guy who I was speaking to online was so useless and unhelpful. Terrible customer Service! Also the majority of the profiles on roomster are scammers! The fact that they save your credit card information online is also very shady!

My boyfriend and I were living together until recently...
My boyfriend and I were living together until recently we went through a pretty bad breakup. I started asking friends of mine if Roomster knew of anybody looking for roommates and one of them suggested I try Roomster. At first I was skeptical to find a stranger as a roommate online but my friend said he used it before with solid results so I decided to give it a shot. At first glance the site is clean and has a pretty easily navigable interface and before long I was sending messages back and forth with a few people who had some really nice rooms listed. I settled on a nice clean room in a good area and the rent was super affordable.

This does not seem to interface very well with my previous experience on Roomster. I'm having a hard time figuring out the difference between creating a listing, and creating a broadcast...? Also, I knew what value-driven services I got from being a paid member before... but now I can't really understand what I'm getting after having paid. It's all a bit nebulous. I would appreciate some contact and help in that regard.

7 dollars is a rip off just to find potentially find people to move into your place or finding roommates, you act like it take 5 days to find someone when it can actually take much longer than that or not at all. For all i know this site is a complete scam just wanting to take my money and doesn't help with what i'm looking for. I don't even get test the legitimacy of this site before actually having to pay for the service, how does that make sense?

Sneaky fees
I signed up for a weekly subscription using their 7day pass to be able to read my messages on their website from what i thought were other users. I discovered these messages were mostly from creepy older men asking me how im doing, etc- completely irrelevant to apartment rentals. First red flag. Then i look at my bank statement and see a $24.95 charge from roomster on top of the 2 weeks i signed up for two 7 day weekly passes for the month of May. Second red flag. I look up a customer service number for Roomster and the only phone number i managed to find, only had a voice recording. No real people or even automated recordings on this line. I email them only for their "customer service" to tell me it is in fine print when you sign up for a 7 day pass, that you also are charged $24.95 on top of that for a month subscription. Not once was i prompted this subscription fee when i purchased the 7 day pass. Not only do you waste your money on sneaky fees, but the website isn't even legitimate. Now i am also receiving calls from random phone numbers from people looking for roommates. This website should be shut down immediately. Who knows what other personal information Roomster disclose.

Fraudulent site (see attached)
Please see attached‘screenshot' Apple refunded my overcharged posted price of $7.99 to $14.99 with no ability to cancel monthly repetitions of this fee.

There is ZERO customer service ( not even a telephone number to call)

I have noted on my Facebook page that ROOMSTER is a scam/fraudulent site.

My attached screenshot identifies more closely my one star (had to give one star in order to post this complaint. Today is November 2020, an up-to-date review

Trial
One thing to consider: The 1 week trial period doesn't let you check up on any messages and I can see your reason but how could ANY future customer of yours gain clarity about the quality of the responses? To find that out a prospective client like me invests into the shortest (but not most cost effective) version and this could go sidewards for you because exactly then, there aren't satisfying messages out there, haha!

THX.

No responses from anyone who I messaged!
I've been getting a lot of email notifications about people messaging me on the site but Roomster are not specifically replying to my listing or post. I messaged over a dozen people and have not gotten a single reply. I don't feel that people are using the site seriously or often enough to see the messages and reply in a couple days. I also feel that the quality of the people is not high enough to expect them to communicate quickly or they may have forgotten about signing up all together.

SCAM CENTRAL
YOUR SITE IS AN ABSOLUTE JOKE. I AM SEEKING A ROOM IN AVONDALE, AZ. 3 OF YOUR CROOKED MEMBERS ARE SENDING ME THE SAME ROOM, ALL CLAIMING TO BE THE OWNER. THE OWNER OF THE HOUSE HAS IS LISTED FOR RENT ON ZILLOW. NOT A ROOM, THE WHOLE HOUSE. SEVERAL OF YOUR "FAKE" MEMBERS ARE SENDING PICTURES OF YOUNGER GIRLS, BEGGING FOR THE DEPOSIT UP FRONT, BEFORE THE ROOM IS EVEN SHOWN. THIS IS THE WORST CASE OF DOING BUSINESS THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN. I WILL SHOUT FROM EVERY ROOF TOP I CAN FIND THAT YOU ARE NOTHING BUT A "BS SCAM" SITE

If you offer this service to help people find housing/roomma...
If you offer this service to help people find housing/roommates, and remain in popular demand because of good results and word-of-mouth, than you can invest in other means besides having to charge a subscription fee for allowing people to use this service to message potential offers. There has been evidence of homeless and disabled people in need of help, and Roomster are still required to pay a fee in order to reach out for housing service, so why charge for something that is already provided as under normal services by other websites and social media networks?

Paying to see messages is annoying
Paying to see messages is annoying. There has to be some other revenue model that doesn't feel like extortion. Also, I think I've tried this service before and was unimpressed with the respondents. Roomster seemed like they were just messaging anyone and asked to see my apartment without giving me any details about who they were or what they were like. I'm only using this service again for a week because I'm desperate to fill a room due to COVID.

Overall straight forward and clean
Overall straight forward and clean. But confusing parts that make me pause and try to figure stuff out. Like what a broadcast is and how it would look to other person. The tutorial section only has a tutorial on 2 things. More instructions would be good in the help section. Also, think it doesn't take American Express b/c gives me an error as soon as I input my card number (and doesn't let me attempt to submit)... but it doesn't tell me no Am. Express - just that my card number isn't valid (despite it being correct).

Overall like the clean look

Thank you Max!
First thoughts of the app; really well thought out. It's like ziprecruiter format where you can scroll from left to right and get quick descriptions of the applicants. I loved how I was able to to submit a background and ID verification check for only 14.99. The app was absolutely perfect, however, in my local area there were no signs of suitable rooms. I checked other areas and thought this app is perfect for areas where room shared are common but in low income places like where I am from, that simply cannot be. I had trouble the first time trying to get a refund. It was quite the story. I kept being bombarded by spammers to log back into the app and reapply my membership. That's when I decided to look at my statements and realized there were an additional 3 payments made after I deleted the app. I know that is a trending dilemma where now you have to unsubscribe the payments from your google-pay account. I personally, find this absolutely dispicable. You would think once the individual does not have access onto the account and the data has erased, you would automatically stop charges on the account. As soon as I gave the help center's email another holler, Max Fine responded with better news than I could have ever expected. Not only did I receive the refund I asked for* because I knew this was a long shot. However, I also received a refund for my ID verification and the entirety of any payments made to Roomster. I am used to being met half way. Glad there are still companies out there who understand individuals matter more than a small profit. It only makes sense.

Scam!
Nothing on here is legit. I messaged so many people and didn't get a single reply. I would get random messages from people saying "I spoil my roommates" and other super weird stuff. $30 and a month later, not a single lead.

UPDATE: "Customer Service" has reached out to me several times telling me that Roomster will refund my money if I take down my review. I said, you give me the money back, I'll take down my review"... 3 months of going back and forth, forgetting our entire email history a few times, still no refund so... my review is still here!

I have responded to them several times. Not sure why they marked my review that I didn't. I'll be happy to pull the logs.
