SiteGround is not registered on BBB. Therefore, this business has no BBB rating and accreditation.
Never got a Wordpress white screen (autoupdate and the like has protected me) Now with them for 5 years and no complaints.
Wordpress issues are interesting and some you have to blame the plugin developers not the hosting company. When you know that the hosting company simply provides the DB and the space to host it then you gotta separate the parts to the right responsible party.
I was going to give 2 stars due to not having issues in the 2 years I was with Siteground. However reading the insincere replies from them to the many other customers who have the same issue left me needing to change to a 1 star. Jumping up prices like that was deceptive (as much as SiteGround say they are being transparent with their prices).
Getting you in on a 'too good to be true' promotional price to have you do the hard work and move over to be stung by the "regular" price as soon as it renews.
Luckily I cancelled renewal before this happened. I asked them if there was anything that could be done and the price offered was still double what I can pay in my local area.
I'd suggest going elsewhere. I can get a local hosting company to host for less than half the cost.
So I have no hesitation in vouching for SiteGround in case anyone is considering using their services for hosting their PHP web applications.
Make the change Today seriously!
Thanks SiteGround you guys ROCK
I could be a new customer but decided to run away from this "price game" before find myself and site stuck with them. Good luck.!
Firstly about a year or 2 ago SiteGround abandonned cpanel and replaced it with a quite terrible alternative calling it an 'upgrade'. The timing coincided with cpanel changing its billing strategy for hosts and charging per panel instead of per server. So it was a sharp cost-cutting strategy which hurt all of their customers (still paying for a premium service). Replaced by a sketchy nasty interface. I had the site broken 3 times from various un-anounced changes leading to loss of business for weeks. The staff couldn't even tell me what they had changed on the server side even after the various 'upgrades' and instead sold me extra scanning packages and referred me to expensive paid 'associate companies' to look for a virus. Which didnt exist. After weeks of loss of business it turns out that they had performed 'upgrades' which had broken the site that they never told me about, even AFTER the event. Even in the crisis they created themselves, they couldn't even offer me stable backups longer than a week old! Wait no backups longer than 7 days rolling that can't delete themselves? Nope! 4 days to respond to tickets while my website is down at your expense? Customer service will drive you insane and they treat loyal customers like dirt. Stay away if you want your sanity and if you love your business! Find a host with cpanel and good manners.
(The img I uploaded is a screenshot of their unwelcoming contact page (once you get past the auto-answer bots). And it is mainly disclaimers to get rid of you!)
Update after 1 year
I had to move all my LMS to digital ocean due to hidden IO restrictions of siteground. We lost may students during the issues. Currently we manage one account just for simple WP sites. SiteGround didn't take the responsibility of io issue and just said that they are using Google cloud platform and they can't control the read write.
But other than that, siteground is good for starters and simple e-commerce solutions. They have powerful caching system and but don't update the siteground plugin every time they push updates. Because there are many issues with some major updates. So as a user, I wait 2 weeks before update the siteground plugin.
We have moved all our LMS to digital ocean and AWS. Digital ocean is a reliable platform for bigger LMS.
Here is a referral link link1.ask2.org i used to get 2 months free from digital ocean.
PROS
1. They have a fully automated system where they will notify you every time they want to do any update, an issue that you need to address, and even provide guidelines on what to do to make your website/system better.
2. Regarding CMS users, siteground works all they year to identify new solutions to optimization, with their SG optimizer serving WordPress users best.
3. Whenever you share an idea with the technical team, it cannot take more than 6 months before you see a product online addressing your problem.
4. Friendly pricing and so many discounts to help service users across all social classes
CONS
1. Not sure, because those I hear complain looks like complains themselves.
