All of the meals I received were less than satisfactory. The first one was a salad, but in lieu of dressing they just supplied plain apple cider vinegar. ACV may be trendy, but I've never found that it makes for much of a dressing, even when mixed with one's own oil. I used my own balsamic vinegar instead (in addition to the aforementioned oil). The amount of vinegar they sent, as well as the protein (pancetta), were laughably inadequate for the amount of vegetables. This is nothing compared to the next meal, also a salad of sorts -- no dressing again; instead they just sent a small blop of flavored mayonnaise for an enormous salad. The protein in this alleged bulgogi salad was a huge disappointment, too -- I had thought from the picture that it would be pork strips, but it was ground pork. Not great in salads. The 3rd dish was the best, but again not that exciting -- a small amount of coconut shrimp accompanied by, you guessed it, a huge salad (no dressing). What is the deal with salad dressing? Did it get cancelled when I wasn't looking? Well, huge heaps of raw vegetables taste like crap without it. Plus, eating half a raw daikon (as the 2nd recipe prompted me to do) made my stomach hurt. A lot. In fact, I had a stomachache for the entire 3 days we did Sunbasket. I've tried 7 meal delivery services, and they were the 2nd most expensive, but by far the worst.
I even accepted that, in fact, the meals are NOT delivered to your door if you live in an apartment. But last night I never received my notification that my delivery had been made. This morning, still nothing. A little research, and I am told it WAS delivered, but I was never sent an access code, so my food is rotting in the mail room, and I can't get it.
I let Sunbasket know. I got an auto-respond telling me to unsubscribe. I contacted their delivery agency. No response at all. $75 for a box that will melt and rot all over my neighbor's packages. Terrific!
I caution anyone thinking of subscribing, don't fall for the hype, pretty pics and empty promises. $75 is a lot to pay for six meals worth of ROTTING FOOD you can't even get to to THROW AWAY!
Update: I NEVER rcvd a response to this directly. But as you can all plainly see, they DO care about review sites, just not customers. They put quite a bit of effort into covering themselves on media, although the problem seems to be clearly illuminated by this response: THEY DON'T EVEN READ THE COMPLAINTS. Answer IN NO WAY addresses the problem of NON-DELIVERY!
First order with the company and everything arrived a day late and warm to the touch. One small icepack in the bottom... Fine I will call them and let them know. First order had a promo code and my order only cost 51 dollars vs 100+ Sunbasket wanted. Well I didn't get my first meal with this company because of the issues.
Called customer service and explained they didn't make it happen.
I explained that I had a coupon and that I would like one of following to happen.
1) Comp my next meals
2) Credit my account on the total paid and reapply the coupon
The Rep told me only the meats are ruined so she would only credit me for the cost of the meat. REALLY? I asked for a supervisor in hopes that she may address the issue. She was no better and couldn't understand why I wouldn't be happen with just paying full cost and never getting the incentive they offered me to join. I told her refund me and cancel my account then. Her attitude reeked of I don't Give a Flip. I told her that I would be writing a negative review and letting people know. The supervisor said that was fine. No concern in the world that you just lost a customer and are getting a bad review for not doing the right thing.
The Takeaway.
1) SUNBASKET DOESN'T care about its customers
2) RUDE AND Dismissive Reps and Supervisors
3) Overpriced
4) Better companies to deal with out there... Don't waste your time... They won't help you when something goes wrong.
NOT RECOMMENDED.
EDIT: After my original review, someone from SunBasket reached out to me through ReviewFeeder and quickly resolved my issue with a 100% refund. This person also said they will be looking to make sure the issues that happened to me will be addressed so that others will not suffer a similar fate. As such, I have adjusted my review from two to four stars. I hope SunBasket can make reporting missing orders an easier and more transparent experience.
I opened the App and signed in to research their menu options. I checked a few options to see if Sunbasket would work with the current diet we are on. Then my husband reminded me something shady re: billing had happened with this company the last time we joined and we cancelled because of it. So I left the App without having hit any final purchase button or without entering any credit card info.
Imagine my surprise when PayPay notified me that they had issued a payment to Sun Basket. It suddenly was very reminiscent of my experience prior and the main reason I cancelled my subscription.
Something is very shady with this company and how they have their App set up (pre-checked food items, that you can change). If you don't plan on being charged for the following week's menu, don't even open it. Once the payment has been issued you can't make changes or cancel. So basically I'm stuck with $62 worth of food that isn't even compatible with the diet I'm on (low carbs). I put in a request to speak with a Supervisor re: why this keeps happening with their App.
Finally, a "Supervisor" messaged me after seeing my review on Yelp, excusing their inexcusable actions (see pic). They still refuse to call me to explain how my account was reactivated by just signing into the App. They also wouldn't change the (supposed) order to include something I can actually eat. Customer BEWARE! The WORST customer service EVER!
*Delivery hours between 8AM-8PM and usually arrives by 10 AM, but no delivery at usual time so... *July 27 - I signed up for delivery updates at 4PM *July 27 - Computerized chat with Sun Basket at 8:00 PM with horrible chat system *July 27,9:30PM - contacted shipping company *July 27 Delivery arrived at 11:10PM, no text update, no knock. Had the dog not alerted me, it would have sat outside until morning! Today is August 4, and the only contact I've received from SunBasket, even after I sent them a picture of moldy peppers, is a FAKE email as a follow-up to a"phone conversation" with me that NEVER TOOK PLACE. Fantastic food if you have no issues with deliver(probably tied to the roof of a Prius, SERIOUSLY) or if you have no issues with arrival times. I was REALLY HOPING THIS WAS GOING TO WORK OUT. It's the first delivery service we have ever done. I cancelled all future orders.
****August 5,2020 - After reading my review, Sun Basket reached out to me. Sunbasket agreed that there was a glitch in communication and that my delivery, so far outside regular delivery hours, was unacceptable. They handled the problem professionally and in good faith. Sun Basket has so much going for it. I'd be happy to return when I see that reviews show improved communication systems and customer service staff.
The food. You pick your items for the following week online. The selections change and entrees vary. I have tried several of the menu items and so far they have been all excellent. There is some prep and cooking, but that's fine. If you want it all done for you then you really should go to a restaurant. The price is a bit steep, but compared to a dinner out, it's okay. On average I pay $9.99 a meal (that's for two people, three entrees a week.) At this point, I do not know for certain if this will be for the long term. Time will tell!
