Everyone that has taken the time to write a review is 100% correct. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME SELLING CLOTHES TO THREDup!

Thredup is a Huge huge HUGE waste of time and effort. Trust me, I do NOT have unrealistic expectations, but thredUP go beyond the low ball rate and they're only doing what they can get away with. Not to mention: it's been almost 4 mos since I mailed off a huge bag of almost brand new name brand clothes - most with tags or never used. I now received an email stating a a potential payout of $49 I would have thought min would be at the very least double that (they're potentially buying only 16 items of the 40+ items I sent) i still have to wait for the items have to sell prior to me seeing any money! This is probably written somewhere but I didn't read because I didn't care but it's something that should be up front and announced to the public. EVERTHING you send them you'll probably only get a handful purchased for about $2 each. I know you're thinking 'that's something', 'it's money without having to do very much' or whatever?! But I did send them only things I knew would Sell, things I purchased for a substantial amount, etc but what pissed me off the most was that several items that were brand new they said they were "flawed" and selling in their basement closet (?) or something similar to that. I'm not someone who has ridiculous expectations and really didn't care too much about getting any money at all. Trust me, I'm not trying to get rich or even thought I'd get a huge payout but was curious and thought this would be a great company to send them my compulsive shopping aftermath habit to help support more purchase... but it was very insulting and, without a doubt, they are shady and scamming people! They are also using charity donations as a cover, as if they are philanthropists, but nothing in their business process or practices point to anything but being huge predators and opportunists! On a side note: I never purchased anything from them so have no opinion about that. I was wanting and waiting to see how they would treat a seller prior to me giving them business or money and now I will most defiantly NOT give them money with a purchase nor send them anything ever again!

Please spread the word and do not keep this company or these people in business. Someone is making money and it's not the person sending them goods to sell - that's for sure! On the contrariary: I will 110% support any petition to put them out of business!

Overall disappointed in Thred Up
I have sent 3 bags into Thred Up over the last couple of years. For the first bag, thredUP itemized each item and told me how much I got for each item. While it wasn't very much, I appreciated knowing what I got per item, and then could compare that to the amount they sold the item for. For the second bag I sent, they stopped doing that, which irked me so I wrote an email asking for itemization amounts. They eventually complied, but I became wary that it would be easier for them to get away with giving next to nothing for your items and unless you kept track of what you sent in, items they don't accept just "disappear" or are "donated" unless you send in the card to keep track of your items and you pay to have the things returned. Reading other reviews, I wonder if they even are all donated, or end up being sold in other ways.
With my third bag, they accepted a third of what I sent, and never said "these were the things we couldn't take" -- curiously one of the things they didn't accept was a Gymboree brand knit outfit with the tag still attached, in perfect condition. Everything I send is in very good condition and brand name. They have never seemed consistent in their payouts, or what they accept. Some of the things I see for sale are Cheap and worn looking Target brand or Old Navy, for example, and they ask near to the price you would pay for the item new. Yet then they won't accept better brand named things in almost new condition?
Also, they put a BCBG dress of mine on consignment for around 50$, it didn't sell, and so they kept it (I didn't want to pay the 14$ fee to get the item back). Couldn't they have just put it into the normal "pool" of clothes and sell it like that and just credit me? I ended up just "losing" that item.
I clicked on the link in my "processed items" email of each thing they accepted this 3rd time around to see what they were selling it for. Of what they accepted, it added up to be 106.41$. I got 21.18$ for it all, which is almost 20%. I also think that when they tag things with the "Tiny Flaw" astrix, the majority of the time it's so they can have an excuse to rip off the seller by giving them next to nothing for their stuff. But then they still sell the item at a high price, getting a very large profit margin on it. If they only want high end brands with tags attached, they shouldn't advertise as a consignment/second hand company.
While I have bought a few items from them when it's a good deal, I still feel pretty guilty about it, knowing how they give sellers hardly what they deserve. I do know that I'm done selling on Thred Up, I just don't trust it and I feel like they truly take advantage of people.
From now on, I will bring my clothes to our local consignment shop, where I get 40% of the sale (once sold) and I know it's helping a local business. While its harder than throwing clothes into a bag and giving it to the mailman, I at least know I'm not getting ripped off.
I hope most people will catch on to the scam they seem to be running and they will at least start crediting people honestly.

Even though the quality was inconsistent, I LOVED the...
Even though the quality was inconsistent, I LOVED the idea of trading boxes with other moms back in the early days of ThredUp. But then thredUP changed the model. I had box 'credits,' that simply went away with the new model; however, they did give me a $10 credit for my first purchase.

My first purchase was good, but not great. I got a new-ish looking pair of shoes for myself and outfitted my younger son with some mini-Boden pieces. They are (or were... I haven't been back in months) weak in older boy sizes. What I paid was the high side of fair, but softened with the $10 credit.

Then, I tried selling. I actually sent two stuffed bags. The first one had winter coats - one of which was outgrown before it was ever worn (LL Bean) as well as jeans, shoes, all kinds of stuff. I got a fraction of what the clothes were worth (probably $400 worth of clothes for which I received about $24 dollars. But, the convenience of shipping from home and not having to drive to donate at Goodwill made it worth it. I never knew of course, what happened to the clothes they didn't accept--they aren't too clear about that.

A few months later, a local children's boutique went out of business. I bought all I could for pennies on the dollar - NWT! - and gave away or gifted what I could. What I couldn't - and I'm talking brands like Hanna Anderson, Zutano and more - I packed up to send to ThredUp. At that point, they were practically begging for 'designer/boutique' brands and a check on the site showed these were brands they accepted. I also through in a couple of lightly worn mainstream brand items - Old Navy, Oshkosh, because I didn't have enough of them to warrant a trip to a donation center. I didn't care if ThredUp didn't take those and gave them away.

I waited. And waited. And waited. About two months and multiple emails later, I got a version of a 'sorry, we've been so busy' note. And then I got my check. It was for $4.74. The items they accepted? The Old Navy and Oshkosh stuff. ONE of the probably 40 or 50 boutique pieces was accepted; the rest were declined with vague reasons.

Like others have said, it made me sick to my stomach. I don't know where those clothes went, but they were current season and they were salable. Heck, I'd rather GIVE them away to kids in my area than not know if they were resold elsewhere. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say SCAM (although some have), but for sure, not transparent and honest.

I've never been and never will be back. There are other consignment options closer to home that offer better selection at better prices and I can see exactly what I'm getting and I can see clothes I've sold them on the sales floor. Trust and reputation was the main reason to choose ThredUp and quite frankly, they've lost both.

My New Addiction
ThredUP is my new addiction. I made three large purchases so far, and have scored some amazing buys on my favorite department store brands. Everything was either new with tags or in like-new condition.

I've read through the negative reviews about selling to thredUP, and feel they're somewhat unfair. If you read through the information under their Clean Out link, the company is very clear about what thredUP accept, what happens to unaccepted items, and how you can optionally have these items returned to you. They also provide a Payout Estimator so you can get an idea of what you will be paid for your items. If you take the time to review this information before you send them your clothing, you'll know what to expect. That said, the number of reviews reporting negative selling experiences indicate there's a disconnect between what sellers expect and what thredUp pays out. ThredUP could probably use some PR help to bridge that gap.

I do plan to sell to thredUP, even though I realize I will recoup only a fraction of what I originally paid for my items. My reasons? 1) It's easy. I just send my items in the postage paid bag. I clean out my closet two to three times a year and I don't have time to sell on eBay or haul my stuff to a consignment shop. 2) Like most women, I have many "mistakes" taking up space in my closet -- impulse buys, sale items, shoes that pinch, those "what was I thinking" purchases, etc. Why not pass these items along to someone else who will be thrilled to find them on thredUP?
3) Recent changes in the tax law eliminated my need to itemize deductions on Federal taxes. That means I can no longer claim a tax deduction for donations to Goodwill. 4) For the items sold to thredUP I can select my payout as a credit against future purchases. What is not accepted will be sold to third party sellers or passed along to recycling partners and upcycled.

I do plan to send some items to thredUP and have ordered my cleanup kit. Once the process is complete I will update this review with my selling experience

ThredUP sells great quality clothing at really good prices. From the $$ they receive for sales they also need to pay expenses to keep the operation going. That includes buying their inventory at low prices and paying their employees to inspect incoming items to ensure quality control.

I like to think of thredUP as Good Karma -- I exchange my unused items for great clothing finds, priced way below retail, that I can wear immediately. So keep an open mind and give thredUP a try.

Getting worse daily.
Update 3-16-2018: Today, items that were in my cart for a while at $9.99 showed up at a sale price of over $50. That is without me removing the item from my cart- the price went UP over 200%. Maybe that is the UP in ThredUP?

I was eager to continue shopping at this site because I love the idea of resale clothing (reduce, reuse!). I was joyous at the 40% off coupon for new users and placed my first order in a matter of days. That is when things started to go downhill. First, once I refilled my cart (which is supposed to be a guaranteed hold for 12-24 hours {depending on if you've made a purchase before or not I assume}) the site managed to delete the contents 3x. In the course of an hour. Which, for those of you familiar with the site itself know, means half of the items I spent my time searching out were immediately gone. This happened every day for 2 weeks, always at a different time, always for some unknown reason.
Next, thredup seems to have added a new feature, BUT ONLY FOR SOME, where you are allowed to purchase something that is in someone else's cart - "once it is removed". So if you have something in the cart and the site "glitches", that item is gone, automatically bought by someone who for some reason has far more power than you do.
Some of the items I've attempted to place in the cart to purchase together have been fine for a day or so, but when checked to renew just mysteriously disappeared, only to reappear as purchased or with a price increase. It seems that items can disappear without even a seconds notice, which to me points to someone who knows how to use the system to their advantage...
My favorite thing so far, however, is that once you make your first purchase and use the lovely 40% coupon code, it seems as though NO OTHER COUPON CODE ABOVE 15% is applicable to your cart. Lovely, right? I am determined to get a decent coupon, so when over a dozen places list a 30% coupon with the only qualifications being "Valid for everyone, may vary" I call BS.

In summary, I believe that the idea behind thredup is genius. I also believe that the system is set up to fail purposefully to remove the usefulness of the "reserving" feature of the carts. There is some indefinable void between those shoppers who are "good enough" to get priority shopping including from others carts and the rest of us. Finally, I highly doubt that the site will offer any decent coupons to returning customers until a certain amount of money is spent.

They don't refund your money
I have have major discrepancies with this company. It took me a long time to finally find the support email, thredUP do not make it easy. There is no email provided on the site anywhere in the customer service or contact us links. I only managed to find it when I downloaded the mobile app.

Issue #1 - Order placed 3/17/17 I am still waiting for my refund. Right now when I check under order returns it states that

"There are no transactions for this time period. Check out our store and we're sure you'll find something you'll love."

I sent in my return for order on the 31st or 1st and have not received any confirmation email. USPS takes 1-3 days to deliver, what is going on? I would like to know whether my package was received as I believe I should have gotten my refund by now.

They expect us to return items in less then two weeks and I have been waiting since last month. This is unacceptable. I work hard for my money and was depending on my refund. I feel ripped off, disrespected, and honestly this and my other experience on ThredUP have been the worst shopping experiences in my entire adult life of 29 years, and that is putting it lightly.

I messaged them about the issue I was having last Wednesday the 12th on Facebook after waiting for weeks to hear back about my return. I got no response. "Typically replies in a few hours" is a lie. Finally I found your contact email.

I was promised $68 back to the original form of payment, my credit card. I paid $8.99 for shipping. NOTHING. I have no refund from this order.

Issue #2

Of course the order I placed later with the company, on 3/22/17, and sent back on around April 5th or so is already credited at my account as per 4/17/2017. A whopping 42 CENTS back to my card in a couple days after mailing. GEE thanks. If only you could credit back my other order I sent back last month... of $68.

What a horrible business they are. I did not pay $16.99 plus shipping both ways for a total of $26 spent to get a measly 42 CENT credit back to my CC. I was promised $16.99 to my original form of payment, my credit card. Disgusting. I am so disgusted. I am absolutely appalled. I am taking my complaint far and wide and I will never do business with them again, and make sure that no one else will either. I did not spend all that time going to the post office for 42 freaking cents. I am owed $16.99 and $68.

I am waiting for my $85 back. I didn't pay money to be ripped off by swindlers of ripped up rags. I can't believe they would treat a (ONCE) loyal customer like this that spent good money on their website.

They have nothing but bad reviews on Facebook wall, and I see them take them all down like disgusting cowards. Evil people run and own the company. Horrible evil lying people who will rip you off your hard earned money. I am so upset.

Thred Up Sucks
I used Thred Up both for consigning and purchasing items previously. As a consignor, I recognized I would not receive a huge percentage of what the items were actually worth, but I had to admit that it was convenient. I was selective in brand, age of clothing, and like-new condition, yet not many items were selected and paid out by Thred Up.

I was on the fence about ever consigning with Thred Up again, but wanted to easily rid myself of my entire maternity wardrobe for two babies (born in two different seasons), so I foolishly decided I would consign again. I sent in a bag STUFFED full of name brand maternity clothes. Almost the entire bag was from The Gap - with a few additional pieces from department stores such as Nordstrom.

Unfortunately, the Thred Up bag I used I had received from diapers.com so it was not automatically activated to my account like my previous bags. I do understand that it was my error to send a bag without activating it. This was clearly my mistake. Then, Thred Up made multiple mistakes that clearly show a lack of professionalism, fair business practices, and good consciousness.

FACT: The bag I sent was opened despite the fact that Thred Up did not know who sent it or where it came from!

FACT: The items in the bag were then posted on the Thred Up website to be sold without Thred Up knowing who sent them!

FACT: The items in the bag were not all sold together, as I found on the Thred Up website an entire "bag" being sold that had some of my items as well as other, individual items, that were also being sold on the Thred Up website separately!

FACT: The bag containing multiple items was listed on the Thred Up website as having come from a "family in San Francisco," although it absolutely did not. I don't even live on the west coast. This was completely false information and leads other consumers to believe that the contents of the bag and other items were compensated for by Thred Up to a family that is actually 100% fictitious.

My greatest concern and complaint is that this is an example of really poor business practices - and could be seen as stealing from a customer.

The fact of the matter is that Thred Up is responsible for opening a bag and selling the contents of the bag without knowing where the items came from. Thred Up also created a fictitious "family" to list items on the website.

I was absolutely appalled to discover that the bag I sent in had been opened and the contents were being sold without Thred Up knowing anything about where the bag came from or whom the contents belonged too.

I WILL NEVER CONSIGN WITH THRED UP AGAIN. Don't be fooled by this completely questionable company!

Multiple Issues with this company
So I've sold A LOT to Thred Up. Hundreds of dollars worth. ThredUP give you pennies for most things. I'm mostly ok with that as I was going to throw away most of the stuff anyway and I get it stores got to make profit. I wouldn't have made much more selling them to local resell stores (like Plato's Closet) anyways.
But my issues have been as a buyer. Even with mostly getting pennies I still earned over $90 in store credit. When I was at $79 I had been saving my store credit for a long time. As I wanted to get some maternity clothes. Well right before I was going to buy something I apparently hit some sort of deadline and they took half of my credit and emailed me a gift card from some no name company. It was to my scam mail. I contacted support and they explained what happened and how to find my gift card equal to half of my store credit. I was kind of pissed. But less so after actually finding the email. So I went about my business. I sold more stuff and earned $30 more in store credit. Now the time has come for me to finally treat myself and get some things I've been eyeing. I checked out using their promocode and my current store credit no problem. Other than on my order preview it said I had earned free shipping (I was spending more that $75) but before I could check out it forced me to choose a shipping method and both were 8.99 or something like that. I picked the one that had the possibility of being refunded. (Their bundle option.) Then I went to buy some more stuff to use another promocode. Promocode worked fine. I had no more store credit so I got my gift card ready. As I was checking out I kept looking for a place to 'apply gift card' as per the instructions in my email. It never showed up. So I kept going through the ordering process looking for it very carefully. Until eventually I had placed my order on accident and did not apply it. So not only did they steal part of my store credit and put it into a gift card. I was no able to apply the gift card. But get this. I went in to cancel my order and they say they they process the orders immediately and there's a good chance I won't be able to cancel it if they already processed it. On FAQ/cancelling orders it said to get in touch with customer support ASAP to cancel. So I did. I emailed them. And got a response they they would respond within 2-5 business days. Now most likely they will have already processed my order by then. Nice business plan you got there. I bet plenty of people pay money for orders by mistake and then try to cancel but can't without contacting support but by the time you respond the order is already processed and cancelling is impossible. What an absolute joke. Not the mention they have a rewards points program and you supposedly get 500 points for every clean out bag you send them. I have sent at least 5 since they've started the program and I've received no rewards points. I guess they bet on people just being happy they got some clothes or happy they are helping the environment not to notice how shady and dishonest this company is. Which is sad because it's a great idea in theory

I too have had a positive experience purchasing a few...
I too have had a positive experience purchasing a few items from Thredup. This encouraged me to try selling, and this has been quite a different matter. I sent in two bags, one contained Cole Haan and Rangoni shoes and a pair of brand new Report Signature rhinestone covered boots still in their box (featured item on many fashion sites). I emailed Thredup about their acceptance of these items and was told to use their "Return Assurance" feature. For a $12.99 fee, what ever it is thredUP don't accept, these items will be returned to you. I did so and guess what? I received an email informing me that they had not accepted anything from this bag and since there was no "credit" to deduct the fee from, my items would not be returned to me! I was stunned. I believed that I would be notified to "go to checkout" and pay the fee. I have written several follow-up emails, no response. How legitimate can this be? Thredup does the "evaluation" of items, deems the items "unsuitable," then disposes of the items as they see fit, even though the contents of the bags were identified for return?! Like another poster's experience, it wouldn't surprise me to see the boots show up on Ebay. My second bag is still being processed. Two weeks have passed and since the horrible experience with the shoes, I have grave concerns. This bag contained 25 items. (I included an inventory of the items in the return bag.) Christian Dior, Eileen Fisher, Lafayette 148, Ann Taylor, Nordstrom, etc. many are silk, cashmere items. All in such excellent condition that when I sent them I was confident that most would be accepted and did not identify the bag for Return Assurance. Obviously, have learned since then that this doesn't make any difference. But, still feel pretty dumb for not doing so. Had I, there might have been some chance of getting something back. In theory it sounds like a great idea to be able to clean out your closet with the convenient, cute "no cost" bag, but in reality that is the hook. We are all busy, the bag makes it convenient and the idea of making a little money from little used items seems like a win-win. In reality, Thredup ends up with sellable items for pennies, (if that) on the dollar. Their buying practices are suspect. I feel like my items were stolen from me by what seems to be a rigged "return assurance" policy. I will take the advice of a previous poster and contact the District Attorney's Office. Wouldn't it be a good thing if one of the local news shows' consumer advocates did a story to expose all this? Lesson learned... if I am going to consign, I'll make the effort with a bricks and mortar store. At least you know immediately what they are taking, you take or donate the rest. With Thredup, you might as well have just given away your items. Problem is you are left feeling totally ripped off.

The only reason why I'm giving ThredUP two stars is...
The only reason why I'm giving ThredUP two stars is because my order came as promised. Sure, shopping at TU is great, however, if you're sending stuff in, you get shafted pretty bad.

Beware their marketing ploy "cash in your closet." It's as big of an over promise as thredUP come. It's more like "cash in their pocket from the clothes in your closet." I sent in a bag full of clothes, shoes and coats in near perfect condition. All brands they purport to accept. They overlooked most of it. As you can imagine, I was extremely disappointed. Now that I find this is a reoccurring theme in reviews around the internet, I'm just pissed.

They did send me a partial list of reasons, along with images, why the majority of my stuff was not accepted, but only after I complained on Twitter and posted a response to the CEO's condescending blog post about, basically, how they are only human and those of us who feel cheated should just stop complaining because "They want to accept 100% of every bag we send in. Period."

No. You don't. So stop pretending you do. If you did, you'd fix this awful mess. And you wouldn't send flimsy excuses why you didn't accept my practically brand new clothing, much of which was worn once or even never. The reasons were laughable. And insulting. And infuriating. They claimed there were "large, visible stains" on clothing I know FOR A FACT there were not. Why would I send it in if it was stained to hell? Do they think I can't read? I poured over their website and the list of brands they accept and the fact that he are very picky and blah, blah, blah. In my opinion, all that is just insurance against any wrong doing on their part. As if it being on their website makes it okay to gyp people out of clothes and accessories they could have taken elsewhere. Show me then, where all those large visible stains are by sending my $#*! back. Oh, you can't because you've "donated" all of it. News flash, blurry ass pictures will not convince me of something I've seen with my own eyes.

To make a long story even longer, both the CEO and CMO emailed me wanting feedback. So I gave it. Absolute silence. Only when I took to the internet did they have a customer support rep reach out to me. Sorry, but it's too late TU. You've lost a customer and, if I can help it, future customers. Until you change your business model to be advantageous to all customers, more specifically, the people who supply you with the clothes you sell, I'm done.

Processing Takes Too Long
I am reviewing as a seller: I used to use LikeTwice and I can honestly say that LikeTwice's payout was much better and their processing time was much quicker. For ThredUp, with a giant bag of accepted name brands including shoes, thredUP only gave an average of $30 per bag full of items barely worn, or even NWT. If I could get proof that unaccepted items are going to a donation, I'd be happy, but that's not going to happen.

On average, no matter what type of item I gave or what condition it was, I almost always got less than $1.00 per item which is actually pretty disgusting. To the point where it's blatant ripping off. I got between $3-9 per item from LikeTwice before they shut down to merge with eBay.

Just to give an example of how low a payment is: I sent them in a bag full of items and they gave me a total of $40 yet all 27 items they accepted marked up on their website for sale for a total of $250+.

On top of that, it takes ThredUp weeks to process the bags. Yes, I am aware that they process a lot of people's stuff. I would forgive the long processing time, but once they give you the money, you can't cash it out immediately which is stupid; so that sort of adds to my impatience. And the only way to get the cash is if you have a PayPal account, so if you don't have that, there's no other way to receive money.

LikeTwice (when it was still here) always gave me a fair price for every item and valued my items as if I was a long-term customer and had the option to send me checks. I made at least $400+ with them within three months from stuff I sent it. One box of clothing, they gave me $118 for. It is obvious (like another reviewer said) that ThredUp is only interested in taking your clothing next to nothing, reselling and don't expect to see you ever again. I considered it a lesson learned just by looking at these numbers.

I'm also an eBay seller and I buy/sell on Facebook, but it takes too much time sometimes. Almost everything I sell looks news. Buyers always message me or people always comment how great the condition my items are and always satisfied. I sell brands like Madewell, Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, J. Crew, Gap, Abercrombie, Hollister, AE, etc. So to have this website give me back so little for my items, it's heart breaking and humiliating, and not the experience I wanted. I should've known better but I thought ThredUp was going to be like Twice but they aren't.

Also, all the positive reviews here are beyond generic and fake. All "users" have one review and that one review is for ThredUp, with the account made on the same month the review was posted. ThredUp's rating was around 2 stars when I came here to view it, months ago. There's no way it spiked up to 4 stars because this company is TRASH.

I have never experienced something like this
Today I tried to order a paid of pants that I was really excited about and every time I tried to process the payment I got an error message saying that something was wrong with my payment information. I just moved so I thought maybe my new address was not updated in the system. So I tried changing my information and still got the same error message. I just got a fraud notice from my bank and learned that thredUP changed me 6 times! To be clear not once did the payment say it went through and I got a error message every time I tried to process the payment and they are still in my basket! The cost of the pants and shipping was 22.61 but now a total of 135.05 was taken out of my bank account. I looked for a customer service number and there is not one so I emailed in and then called my bank. My bank went through everything with me and told me that there is not reason why my payment would not process and see's that unless they stop the payment they would go through. And asked me to contact the vendor as there is an issue with their system. While I was waiting to hear back form Thredup a message popped up on their web page asking if I need help. I told her what happened and she said, "your payment did not go through and I cannot tell you why. They should fall off your statement eventually." I explained to here what my bank had said and let her know that taking an additional $135.00 out of my bank account was a big deal to me. She just kept posting the same thing over and over to whatever I said or asked, ""your payment did not go through and I cannot tell you why. They should fall off your statement eventually." It got to the point to where I asked her if she was a robot or reading from a script. Not once did she show empathy, tell me she was sorry, or acknowledge that there might be an issue with their system. She was so rude. An hour and half later I still have not gotten a reply back from my email. Their customer service is the worst that I have ever experienced. I have worked in some form of customer service my entire life and know how challenging it can be, but no matter what I would never treat someone the way this company treated me.

***Update******

Since this site will not let me respond to thredup's response I will post here. As of 7/31 I still have not received a response to my email I sent into support. I have not received any kind of message initiated from thredup. So what they are saying is false and that is very disappointing. I also still have pending transactions in my bank account resulting in missing money.

Unauthentic Labelling of High-end Brands
I am (and always will be) a believer in consignment shopping. I was thrilled when I learned about ThredUp, because my local Crossroads Trading Post consignment store just closed. Up until now, I've not taken this online review avenue. However, if I am spending my hard-earned money on something that was sold to me under false pretences, and if a company handles it in the way that ThredUp did, I feel compelled and ethically responsible to let others know, so that thredUP don't have to go through the same as I did. I recently ordered a pair of boots that were touted as being "Ralph Lauren." When they arrived, some specific things stood out that implied otherwise, so I contacted Ralph Lauren to get them authenticated. I sent photos of the insides of the boot (there were numbers), both sides, soles, and zipper. They got back to me the same day verifying that they were not authentic Ralph Lauren. I took this information to ThredUp who replied that I must return them and wait for them to review the authenticity of the boots before they would refund me. I went several rounds of emails as to the unprofessionalism of that process, not to mention that the boots had ALREADY been authenticated by Ralph Lauren themselves. The messages I got from ThredUP was repeatedly that they need to review for authentication, and that once determined, they would know whether or not to "destroy" the item. For all I know, they are going to turn around and re-sell these boots, which means that they are not losing anything in the least - only I am, by losing both the comfort of believing I was wearing some solidly made boots by a company I cannot afford, as well as losing the boots completely. That said, I have no intention of collaborating on this with them. This is dishonest, disrespectful, and disturbing, to say the least. And all three of those are intolerable to me when I am spending my hard-earned money. I was appalled by this, because not only had I sent them Ralph Lauren Customer Assistance's reply to me verifying that they are NOT authentic, I have copied them on every email since. Why they are not accepting the word of the actual manufacturers of Ralph Lauren and still maintaining that their "experts" (that's exactly what they were called) need to authenticate is beyond me. I mean, how much more proof do you need? I took this up with Ralph Lauren again, and Customer Assistance stated that she is taking this up to a higher level. I don't know if anything can be done, but I, for one, will never purchase from them again. They lost their right to my loyalty and support with their form-letter responses, condescending manner, decisions not to reply to several of my actual points and questions, and refusal to take the word of Ralph Laurent itself as a way to try and get boots back that they can re-sell. I won't be recommending them to anyone again.

P.S. I posted a review on TrustPilot a few days ago, and the response I got from ThredUp was a copy-paste of the original email reply they sent. It didn't even address the actual review. I have seen their responses to people's posts, and they do a great job of appearing to care; however, if you look closely, it is a thinly veiled "we are not culpable" reply. Read the review, then read the response to see what I mean. The fact that they copy-pasted from an older email to me to their response on TrustPilot says it all to me. I do not intend to carry on any further correspondence with them, so if you are reading this, ThredUp, don't bother.

ThredUP was great now terrible in the last couple of months!
I really liked ThredUP! ThredUP have some fantastic clothes that were known to be at thrifty prices. BUT over the last few months they have developed very bad business practices and ethics that I cannot stand behind and don't believe many of you would either. Here is why listed with the worst first:

1. Possibly Steeling Clothes! - as I have read recent reviews in my search to find out when the $2 restocking fee took effect, I have been disgusted with the number of people stating they are receiving less than $0.25 (this $ amount is not a typo) for their boutique items - some people stated they don't receive anything at all and yet they see their items listed for sale!

2. Restocking Fee - They went from not having a restocking fee to now charging $2 per returned item! I used to buy an average of 25 pieces of clothing as inevitably half or so wouldn't fit or I didn't like on. Now I have to pay $26 just to send what doesn't fit back and another $8/9 to ship the items back if I want the refund returned to my card. Their theory is they are saving us time and gas from returning them to a store if we shopped at any other clothing store. For $34+ I can drive to a clothing store for returns thank you. I understand the company has time in reposting the item online (probably by way of clicking a reactivation button) and handling it but they already make almost 100% gross profit on the article of clothing by paying the person they received it from next to nothing (or in some cases nothing at all!).

3. Possible Inflated Suggested Retail Prices - some reviews state they paid a lot less than the suggested retail price listed on ThredUP. In ThredUP's "defense" it is possible the person purchased the item on sale or at a more affordable retailer. But based on the above two reasons, I no longer trust ThredUP and the particular review I read on this stated ThredUP wasn't giving as great of a deal (or discount) on a lot of their clothes which I personally have noticed prior to reading their review.

4. False Advertising - earlier this summer, ThredUP had a BINGO sales event (probably to generate sales). They had an unmistakable pair of jeans on their BINGO card with a coupon code stating 40% off a pair of pants. So I purchased a pair of jeans and the promo code wouldn't work.
After much back and forth emailing with customer service (as they dont have a customer service phone # which is yet another downfall) it was later known that if you clicked on the official rules link it stated jeans are excluded. Why would you specifically use a pair of jeans on your bingo card for the pants then?

5. Long Return Processing Times - ThredUp used to refund your money once the return was in transit. Now it can take a couple of weeks before you see your money/credit from the return. If you had spent over $150 you would earn free shipping for the rest of that month through the end of the next month without minimum purchases - it was fantastic! But now by the time you received your initial order 1.5 - 2.5 weeks later, tried everything on and immediately shipped the unwanted items back, and then waited 2-3 weeks for your credit/refund, you might have time to order one time without paying for shipping to use any credit from your return before your time runs out.

With that said, I sadly placed my last ThredUP order today to use the credit I had on my account with them - hopefully the items fit as I won't be returning them. I just no longer trust ThredUP and I cannot get behind a company that is possibly steeling some of their clothes to sell. If a thief stole a car and sold it to someone that knew it was stolen, both the thief and the buyer would be in trouble with the law. So, how is this any different (other than the price of the sale)?

I truly hope ThredUP rethinks their business practices and ethics quick as they had a pretty good thing going before all of this.

Where do I begin..
Where to begin? I was having such a great time on thredup finding all kinds of really cool clothes that I was excited about. I spent nearly $500 in almost two weeks time. Everything was going good, everything fit, everything was really nice and it came in record time. I was so excited about the whole situation... that I had found this really awesome place to shop online. I told everyone I worked with how great it was, I told my family... anyone I came in contact with... I talked about thredup and how awesome it was. I ordered two clean out bags and decided that I would send some clothes and shoes to resell. Things that were really nice but did not fit. Brand name stuff in excellent condition. I filled the bags and scheduled a pick up. Everything was so easy. Then I checked on my account to see the status and saw that one of the bags was going to be DONATED... I did not ask for a donation bag. So I decided okay let's get a hold of customer service and get it straightened out and that's when everything went downhill... I was unable to find a phone number for service. So I continued my search online and tried and tried to find a contact number. I even signed up for a Twitter account as it said that was one way to get through to them. I tweeted and received no answer I finally went back on the thredup site and was able to get through to chat and at that point I explained the situation and was told this.
I see your bag #B25T4-KBYM2 was ordered and sent as a donation. I can confirm the charity associated with the bag is Feeding America.

Regrettably, we cannot change the status of this bag because it is on the way to our donation only facility in Hayward, CA. I sincerely apologize for any further disappointment this may cause.

You will receive a tax receipt for this bag once it is scanned in as received. ( For $5)

I then said. There has to be something someone can do to change this... and received yet another "canned answer".
I know things are hard right now and people are understaffed etc... but this is unacceptable... She then said she would escalate it to a supervisor and someone would email me in 48 hours.
I can't even begin to explain how horrible this is and what a terrible experience. Be careful when dealing with this business... don't expect anyone to help with anything. And don't expect there to be any customer service available. Expect to be frustrated and forgotten about. Expect nothing and you will get exactly that.

I would give Thredup 0 stars if that was an option
I would give Thredup 0 stars if that was an option. I wish I had done my homework and read the reviews before consigning with them (thredUP have 153 complaints on file with the Better Business Bureau, and they will have 154 when I am through). First, there is no transparency as to their review system, and I legitimately believe they are stealing from their sellers. I have consigned with them 3 times. Given their stringent standards, I was somewhat shocked the first time I sent a bag in and they sold my brand-new, never worn leather Ugg boots with a wedge heel for $34. I paid $295 for them. Yet they sold my 6 year old Banana Republic blazer for $47. After getting what I thought was a good feel for what they accept, I decided to entrust them with some of the more high-end pieces that I had been nervous to send because of their deep discounting (shame on me, I should have known after they sold the Uggs at a Walmart price). Imagine my shock to discover that they did not accept my brand-new, never worn $198 Citizens of Humanity jeans with the tags still attached, a current season Banana Republic dress that was only worn once and was in PRISTINE condition, and a $380 Laundry by Shelli Segal dress that was also worn only once and did not have so much as a wrinkle on it. My inquiries to their non-existent customer service have gone unanswered. Upon further research of this company, it seems that many other sellers have had high-end pieces mysteriously rejected with no explanation or account of where these items have gone or why brand-new merchandise from designers on their approved list have been rejected. I 100% believe this company is stealing high-end items from their sellers. In contrast to the brand-new items which were somehow mysteriously rejected from my bag, they did accept several old items from me that were not in nearly as good shape as the pristine designer pieces I sent (and yet, my brand-new Citizens of Humanity jeans have somehow gone missing). Considering that I have now read so many other reviews of sellers who had the same experience, it is my belief that they are keeping the higher end pieces and doing whatever they want with them, after all, we are not provided with any reason as to why our items have been rejected.

DON'T DO IT!
I cannot stress enough to absolutely NOT consign with Thred Up! I cannot comment on shopping their website but I can attest to my dealings with them sending in their "clean out bags". I'll try to keep this to the point. First experience was about 6 months ago when thredUP partnered with Macy's and the credits you earned for the clothes you sent them was put on a Macy's gift card. I requested my first bag, promptly filled it and sent it in. Turn around time was pretty reasonable and of the 38 pieces of clothing I sent them, they accepted 29 and was paid $60 and some change on a Macy's gift card. I was conservative in how much I sent in and what I sent in for this first trial because I wanted to "test the waters" so to say. I was pretty pleased with the outcome first time around so ordered another "clean out bag". This time I selected the option to have the unwanted items returned mainly because I was sending in some higher end and quality items which included 5 pair of designer shoes and 2 Coach handbags along with 48 pieces of clothing. Let me add that you do not get any kind of "receipt" or confirmation email indicating that you've selected to have your unwanted items returned, just an email confirming they received your request and your bag will be on it's was soon - this is important to remember. After waiting over 2 months and way past the deadline they told me my bag would be processed by, I received an email informing me that my bag had been completed and they again, ironically, accepted 29 items for a total of $56.55 - this included them accepting a few pair of the designer shoes I sent them but not the Coach handbags (one of which still had tags on it and had never been used). I emailed them to ask when my unwanted items would be returned and they informed me that I had not selected that option and those items were gone for good - including the Coach handbags! We emailed back and forth a couple of times and they told me if I could provide "documentation" of selecting the return option, they would CONSIDER compensating me for my loss. Of course I had no such "documentation" for the reason I explained earlier. My last email was asking for a customer service phone number to be able to actually speak with someone instead of communicating via emails - take note that on their website or anywhere on the internet will you not find a customer service phone number. That email was a week ago and I have gotten no response from them. Like I said, I cannot comment on buying things from them but will not ever consign with them and have informed all my friends and encourage you to take my warning to heart and not do it as I guarantee you will be disappointed. Granted, I wasn't 100% pleased with how much they gave me for my items the first time around but their website's idea and concept was more convenient than driving to a local consignment store which is why I tried it the second time and that time sent many more things as well as designer items. Their customer service is, without a doubt, less than a one star rating. It's understandable why they do not post a customer service phone number and only "live chat" times and an email address. This way if they want to ignore your questions, complaints and dissatisfaction, they just don't respond to you. I will never consign with them again nor purchase anything and that would only be because of their extremely poor customer service. You make your own decision but if you choose to deal with them, be prepared to be disappointed.

Started good...
I started using Thredup two years ago and was thrilled with the low prices, exceptional return policy, and environmentally friendly attitude toward buying second hand. Since then I've noticed the prices steadily climbing, but the large variety and return policy kept me interested.
A couple months ago I filled my first "cleanout bag" after putting it off because of other poor reviews of the service. I had figured since there were just a couple high priced items I felt like I could get a decent amount for based on their payout estimators I might as well try it, BIG MISTAKE! One new with tags item thredUP said retailed for $650 they gave me $68 for and had marked it $0.01 below their next payout level. Not to mention, about a month after it was listed they added a red 149.99 with a line through it as though they had marked down the price LYING TO CUSTOMERS to make them think it was on sale!
After my less than idea selling experience, I had decided to just stick to buying from them. However, over the last few weeks specifically their prices have been climbing drastically and today I actually found out they now have a $1.99 restocking fee for items below $50. As a college student on a budget, their rising prices had already been starting to deter me from making purchases and as only a one or two items I have ever purchased from them are over $50 and I am guilty of returning many items and a $1.99 charge on every returned item would quickly add up. I think it is very important to be able to return items in part due to the fact that they are used and it is hard to tell from the pictures provided the exact condition of the item, not to mention fit as it is no longer standard based on the brand because of stretching and shrinking! This has been the final straw for me. I am rather disappointed to say Thredup will no longer receive any business from me!
As an added note, I have always been suspicious of what they do with the unexcepted clothing that is not sent back to the seller using "assurance." They have recently added a "rejects" tab to their menu where, no joke, they sell the rejected items they didn't pay people for, this is a deceitful company built by money hungry fiends. Even if some of the profits go to charity, this is dishonest. If people are not being paid for the items all profits should be donated!

Zero stars
Zero stars. A total scam.
I sent in a bag the first time without reading all of the specifications as to what thredUP "wanted", meaning designer, new items, with tags, or gently used. So after a very disappointing first transaction, I decided to give it another try six months later. I reread the instructions as to what exactly to mail in. I sent Michael Kors pants, with tags, a Tahari sweater, with tags, Theory trousers, a designer dress, with tags, and Old Navy jeans with tags. Of the nearly 10-12 items I sent, they "accepted" two-- the dress, and the JEANS from Old Navy. I emailed the support desk, which is supposed to answer within 2 days, as to what happened to the remaining items. After eight days, I received a canned answer from "Samantha", stating that the rest of the items I sent in did not meet their "style requirements", and were donated. Rest assured, there is no chance they could accept those jeans that cost $20 and not a brand new with tags Tahari sweater that retails for almost $300, also with tags. I emailed the Chief Marketing Officer for an explanation-- several times-- each email has gone unanswered.
I am not sure what they are doing with the items, but I do know that this is completely unacceptable. There are hundreds of complaints against them on sites like this, and registered with the BBB. I, regretfully, had not researched the company prior to reading them.
I have also purchased from them. Funny, they say they are very choosy with what they accept, however, the first dress I purchased for my daughter came and was completely damaged, and I had to return it. What they had described as a "very small flaw" was actually an extremely noticeable part of he dress which was visibly damaged.
Do not make the same mistake I made. Sell your clothes elsewhere, or simply donate them. This site is not reputable, they do not answer emails, and there is no excuse for this kind of customer experience and service. There are far too many options out there.
I have attached a photo of the brand new sweater I sent in, which just "disappeared" from my bag, saying it did not meet their style requirements, and, that, they, therefore "donated" it. The sweater was brand new, with tags still attached.
Again, both experiences I have had with this company left me feeling swindled. Never again.

ThredUp Chat
Below is my chat this morning with the only option for customer service, via a 4 hour chat window. The fact that customers are charged a hidden per item fee for shipping is bogus. I understand overhead costs, but be honest about it! It does not cost more to ship. I was paid well for the first box of items I sent in and from that point New items will garner you pennies! I advise caution if you use this site.

Gaby, 09:39 AM
How can I request that this facility not get my items?
09:41 AM
Unfortunately, we do not have control over that as Phoenix is in need of inventory so we are sending a lot of bags that way.
Gaby, 09:42 AM
If thredUP are so desperate then they might consider processing bags faster. It took them 2 weeks past processing date, I was paid miserably for NWT items, and no-one bothered to email me my payout was complete.
09:44 AM
Bag processing does take 4 weeks normally at any warehouse.
Gaby, 09:45 AM
Well it was supposed to be done by 8/23
09:46 AM
We currently have an overabundance of bags being sent in by customers. All of our teams are working hard to keep up with the growth, and to provide the best possible experience for our customers as we expand our capabilities.
Gaby, 09:46 AM
Due to higher than normal volume, we've regrettably fallen behind on processing your bag.
Gaby, 09:46 AM
Well processing time aside there is a serious issue with payout numbers at this point and I am annoyed no one bothered to email me my payout. In addition I want that ludicrous $2 per item "SHIPPING" charge turned off when I order jewelry.
09:49 AM
You can always view your payout by going to your seller history thredup.com/bags

Our goal is to give customers access to the widest variety of secondhand pieces at the most affordable prices imaginable. To keep our prices low, we do need to apply certain fees to our services. While these fees may change over time, we have the best interest of our customers in mind every step of the way.
Gaby, 09:51 AM
I ship packages for a living I deal with FedEx daily and I know it doesn't cost an additional $2 to ship packages
09:51 AM
I will pass along this feedback to my team.
Gaby, 09:53 AM
Gaby I am pretty challenged at this point and I really feel like this has been an exercise in futility. I was not addressed on my concerns and I will post some online feedback in regards to the excess shipping. If you need to charge higher fees then be honest about it
