Reply to the commenter: I closed my debit card account and a new one was ordered for me by my bank. Yelp still managed to fraudulently charge the closed debit card account. Yelp did this through contacting Visa, not my main bank. My bank told me the Yelp cocksu**kers had presented an alleged agreement between Yelp and me to Visa so as to charge the closed debit card account. As soon as my bank found out that Yelp had stolen my money by fraud, it credited the money back into my account. Jay, close your debit/credit card account as "stolen/missing." Tell your bank or credit card company to add a "stop check" to your account too. That way, Yelp cannot charge your closed debit/credit card account like it did in my case. They'll then threaten you with a baseless collections letter. But you have a right not to be lied to in the form of false advertisement from Yelp. At that point, you may go to court to have any bull$#*! collections info removed from your credit history. If you gave them a false first name and last name when registering for your Business account, they may not charge any account in a different name. $#*! Yelp!
Yelp is a scam! Yelp needs to be sued and I'm looking for the company's head too.
I've received the same ridiculous email rejecting my profile photo because I have glasses with transition lenses (that I wear 24/7). Called and explained, the CSR said she'll get the photo approved, 2 days later back to square1 with same email!
Awesome 5-star reviews have been hidden, supposedly 'just by the algorithm' without ANY ability for CSR intervention. How f'ing STUPID is that! If this were a bank or credit card company, Yelp for Business Owners would be closed by now. The CSR was more intent on getting me to sign up for ads, than even hear about my issue!
A waste of 3 weeks, with real stress and sleepless nights only to make peace with the ridiculous situation.
And after placing this review, I get this seemingly caring call that turns into a nightmare while driving! This utter i*iota calls me saying he wanted to address my concerns, then starts arguing that every concern I have is not really a concern, and that he is 'calling me out on it!'. I couldn't even understand what he thinks he is calling me out on! These people take advantage of common human decency to force people into agreeing to advertise. I even warned him that I'd not continue with the argument and just put down the phone, but m being courteous to end this conversation on a decent note. This mor-on couldn't even get that!
I was talked into running some pay per click ads during the last 10 days of my clients business season. It was explicitly stated many times that we would only want to run the ad for 10 days because the business was closing for the season. This is stated in the sales agent's notes and on the voice recording.
What the sales agent didn't tell us was that we were responsible for turning the ads off at the 10 day mark. I personally checked the account after the 10 days and it appeared there were no ads running but I received a call from the client a month later that Yelp for Business Owners were charged $570 for ads that ran while they were closed.
We were also told that we would only pay for actual ad clicks which no one wants to click an ad to rent a boat in the fall but also Yelp conveniently will charge you the maximum per month even if you don't get the ad clicks.
I called and was able to speak with an agent that said their sales people are not responsible to turn off ads despite what may be interpreted or implied. I asked to speak to her manager and she said she was the manager. I asked for her name and ID# and she would only give me her first name. She was more than happy to tell me how she wasn't going to help and that it was our responsibility to pay for it regardless of the error.
I have multiple clients and know multiple agents so this is roughly 50 people within direct reach of me that will never use yelp. I explained this to them with zero result. I called one more time to see if I could get a different rep and answer to no avail.
Any company that is so desperate to keep shady ad money without any sort of negotiation or acccommodation is on it's way down. I assume they know they are doomed to Facebook & Google reviews and are doing a final run for a money grab before they sink.
I was contacted by a representative in June. The call opened with him mentioning that people in my area were looking for businesses like mine (photography) He said that Yelp wanted to help with exposure. He walked me through how to set up an account for Ads. I was hesitant to enter my card but he said it was a formality it wouldn't charge me in fact he had a code so I could try the ads for $300 free. So I put my info in. When I connected a second small business I own on Yelp, a woman and then the same guy called back and had me sign up my second account. Below attached is the email I received after the call. Notice no reference to being charged at a later date. I didn't look for another email because I assumed that this was the only one I should be looking for. A month later I was charged $600 no email or warning. These are small businesses and I'm a recent college grad so that was pretty much everything I had in those accounts mainly for taxes. I called Yelp and submitted a review form. It took weeks and I'm am not sure if this is a coincidence but only after I tweeted about the company did I get an email saying that in good faith Yelp for Business Owners would return the money for one of my businesses (the account that was charged less.) The other account was denied because the salesperson did "nothing wrong" I called today after calling a week ago and was told to email the representative. When I didn't see a reply I followed up and the answer was there is nothing they can do. They tried to frame it as if they were generous for giving any of it back. They front as if the promotion is absolutely free i have never dealt with ads online and I didnt know better *sigh* I wont be dumb ever again but be warned.
This was not explained to me by the Yelp representative when signing up. Not only have I not received a refund, Yelp is still billing me for another month, "your ads were still running." Yelp is a SCAM, or why would Yelp for Business Owners have a program that when you shut down wanting to receive reports that it does not shut down the advertising? Yelp should be shut down by the government for stealing from small businesses. Any decent company would not require a special way to stop billing when the business requests discontinuing the reports. And any decent company would gladly refund this overcharge. DON'T USE YELP - RUN FROM THIS CHEATING SCAM!
During the sign up process, they ask for the budget you agree to. Obviously, I chose a budget to match what they claim I would get for free, $300. Nowhere did it say I had to pay out of pocket or that I had to call and cancel.
Two months later I look at my bank statement and find a charge for $247 debited from my account. They had my account information from a previously authorized purchase.
What you get for your money;
Your listing is close to the top of the list when someone does a search on the services or products you offer. THAT'S IT!
The person would have to search the name of your business for it to come out on top.
I was so shocked at the unexpected charges. I couldn't figure out what went wrong. I disputed it with my bank, but the charge was still pending so they couldn't do anything for me. It was the first, rent and bills were due at home and at my business.
I called Yelp. I thought my 7 year old pressed something and ordered some ridiculous service. Regardless, they wouldn't budge. I got no warning, no email, nothing.
Eventually, I figured out what happened and remembered I had fallen for the same scam a few years prior.
I spend hours advertising, including advertising yelp. I get lots of business, but rarely do I get customers through yelp.
I cancelled the service and that same day I got my first bad review. It was an unknown customer who made claims that were impossible. I tried to dispute it worn yelp and the wouldn't help me.
Yelp is bias and only benefits your business when you pay. Otherwise bad reviews from uninformed people, or revenge reviews are permitted. I was even extorted for free services by a person threatening to give me a bad review, later to find out that person was never a customer.
So I checked my bank account I saw this charge for $153.06 from Yelp! I called today the the first person who told me it's based on clicks and I went over my credit. I explained many different times that I did not because I checked frequently because I didn't want to be charge. She's telling me I don't understand. I said so your app lied or is delayed telling me different. She said no I was wrong. I asked to speak to another person.
So the next person said, No you did not use all your $300 credit but your used clicks which is $5.50 per click. So this doesn't make sure. Why give me a credit to use and charge me? Then she went on and on about advertising. Which had nothing to do with my lost money. I told her to cancel my ad all together and she did not. I want my hard earned money back!
Popular for those that use it, but not for many of the businesses owners who yelp has listed on their site.
It is a site where people give user reviews and rate you by the 5 star method.
Google searches this site and posts the # of reviews and your star rating. Next to your link in their search engine.
The good:
1. Your listing is free and can be customized allowing you to add photos and a business description.
2. It's an extremely popular site with hundreds of thousands of users across the USA.
Because of that a business can get a fair amount of customers from that site.
3. Yelpers are hard core and trust what others are writing about you.
The bad:
1. You get listed on their site without your approval.
2. Some yelpers won't give anyone a 5 star rating. Yelp for Business Owners might have absolutely loved your restaurant or the service you provided and will write a wonderful review about you, but they won't give anyone that 5th star.
Well that isn't a bad thing if that 4.5 star rating was confined to Yelp.
Most Yelpers like to read the reviews and you can still get their business, but what happens when another site or search engine grabs that information?
But that lowered star rating that they give you isn't confined to Yelp's website!
Google's search bots transfer that information to your website link on their search engine, which then drops your rating to 4.75 or 4.5 stars.
And their are other internet directors that farm links and information for their site and will include your star rating and review on their site.
Now you are no longer rated equal with or better than your competitors and people who are only looking for those with the 5 star rating, pass over your link in their search for the best.
And all because someone hired you or ate at your restaurant and has an attitude that they are high and mighty won't bestow 5 stars on anyone, short of having them save their life or give them an orgasm.
Now that's just an example of what happens to when someone decides that what your doing isn't giving them an orgasm and so it doesn't deserve 5 stars.
What about the people that might have had a waiter or waitress that makes a mistake or is having a bad day for some reason?
Or the person on yelp that tries to take advantage of your services or loses in small claims court against you?
Well, they can give you a bad review and 1 star and Yelp won't stop them.
What Yelp tells you in their FAQ section, is that all you need to do, is write a rebuttal, explaining your side.
Well that might be fine for those people who only use Yelp and actually read the reviews, but Google search bots are automated to look for the stars and the word "review" (but not "rebuttal") and will still down rate your star rating.
And Google is not the only one.
Other sites that are directories farm that information, will include the first words of a review (if it's the latest) but not your rebuttal (because Yelp publishes it like a footnote).
The bottom line:
On Yelp, a business is vulnerable to whatever whim and state of emotion of the person writing the review.
Literally, right now, you can go on Yelp and see that a contractor received a 1 star rating from someone who admitted that they never used the person and gave them the rating because they don't like a commercial that they have airing.
And Yelp? Well, you have no direct way to get in contact with them.
They do not list a contact phone # and any email submissions are directed to their sales department.
Which brings me to my next point about being a business owner listed on Yelp.
3. Yelp has an extremely aggressive sales department. So aggressive that it is to the point of being obnoxious.
So aggressive, that businesses that opted not to pay for advertising on Yelp, would suddenly find negative reviews and 1 star rating on their business, given to them by "anonymous" users.
Keep in mind, that these bogus bad reviews and rating is crawled by Google and posted next to their web site listing in the search engine.
Some people have also written when they didn't buy a plan, that their positive reviews disappeared on Yelp, dropping them in Yelps rankings.
It is so serious, that there is now a class action lawsuit against Yelp over their business practices.
And if you want to have Yelp remove you?
Sorry, they can't be done and they won't do it.
Although, I believe that might change if Yelp loses the class action lawsuit against them.
As a business owner, Yelp would only get 2 stars from me.
And I hope if they lose this lawsuit against them, that I will be able to opt out of there.
And I'm a highly rated and reviewed business on that site.
If I can tell anyone anything is, its not worth it in the long run. Try Google or any other service out there, it will be cheaper and you will have a greater return.
2. I signed up on 7/25, when I received a phone call from a woman in Sales. (See attached welcome letter). The conversation I detailed in the original complaint.
3. You can see that I signed up for a 15/day add campaign. I did not have a budge for $450/month, but I was assured I could adjust this after my $300.00 was used up, but I should make it 450/month so I get the max results of my free $300.00
4. On 10/1 I received an email that my debit card was declined for $373.05. Yes, that would be because I wasn't supposed to be charged. My business is just starting out and I don't have any funds in there yet. I wasn't supposed to be charged.
5. I immediately wen ton the website and closed my Yelp Business account
6. On 10/4 I received another email that my card was declined.
7. On 10/8 I received an email that Yelp for Business Owners wanted to speak to me about my account.
8. I spoke to them on the phone and they said My ad was never cancelled, but they would go ahead and cancel it for me, and then I received another confirmation that it was closed. Ronni also said he would go back and review the phone call to see what I was told when I signed up. I never heard back.
9. Today, 1/23, I received an email that they are sending this to collection.
I ended up calling back and paying this bill with my credit card.
Listen carefully to what they say... they will tell you that their free $300.00 will cover everything, encourage you to sign up for things they know is beyond the 300.00 and you will get stiffed for the bill. Hang up immediately if they call you! Do not fall for the free $300.00 scam.
Also, you, as the business owner do not have the right to remove your business from their website. They will never remove it or allow you to mark it as closed or remove your contact information. Once you are on yelp, you are always on yelp.
My claim was filed June 12,2020, it is July 9,2020 and it has not been authorized yet. Warranty Solutions states that you can choose your favorite license mechanic, but that is not true. Warranty Solutions requires that you maintain your vehicle to manufacturers specifications, but Warranty Solutions will force you to use aftermarket parts, if that is not a double standard, I do not know what is. The manufacturers know what is best when it comes to maintaining the vehicle but have no idea what quality of replacement parts should be used, (really)?
Warranty Solution's advertising material is designed to mislead consumers!
1. Consumer can choose his mechanic
Well if the mechanic must use Warranty Solutions parts, the consumer is not actually choosing their own mechanic, because the garage you choose manufacturer might think the aftermarket part is not a quality part!
2. Consumer is entitled to up to $40.00 in rental reimbursement per day
Well the fact of the matter Warranty Solutions will maybe reimburse the actual time the vehicle is being repaired, so all the time Warranty Solutions is trying to find a way not to cover the claim the consumer is on the hook for the rental cost (I'm currently in the process for one month and counting)!
3. Warranty Solutions holds the consumers to the highest standards to maybe receive coverage
Warranty Solutions would like to provide the lowest possible part to satisfy their obligation, but you must maintain the highest standard to maybe receive coverage, (really)!
In closing, consumers need protection from these predators like Warranty Solutions, Warranty Tech etc. If the manufacturer is the standard for Warranty Solutions to consider a repair, then it only stands to reason that the manufacturer's part should be part of the solution during repair. Agencies that are design to protect consumers from predators such as Warranty Solutions consumers are hoping that you will use the strength of your organization to ensure the consumer is protected.
Sincerely,
Jerry McElroy
Added to this, when you check your ad spend all you see at the top of the page is your slow progress toward your $300 credit. In much smaller font below this is the hundreds you're actually spending. So if you sign up thinking that you get $300 free to try out Yelp ads, as they lead you to believe, and then you try to monitor your progress toward the $300 so that you don't go over, you will likely be misled into thinking you haven't hit the $300 while in fact you've spent hundreds. It's a textbook con.
By the time I saw my credit card statement I'd spent nearly $1000 and they charged $750. I quickly cancelled the card and reported the charges as credit card fraud. It truly is fraud to mislead people into accruing large charges that they don't intend to accrue, while obscuring any reporting of the accrued charges. It really is shameful.
I encourage anyone affected by this company to report any charges as fraudulent and file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov/complaint) so that hopefully something can be done to hold this company accountable.
