Hostgator keeps up with the changes on the Internet
Very many years ago, before Wordpress, I had a host who gave me a free domain, then held me to ransom when I needed to renew it the next year. Someone recommended Wordpress then, and I've used them ever since. At one time, I had 23 websites using HostGator. Now, I'm down to a handful of specialty sites such as http://travelwith.yanmac.com
As with most businesses, their computer gets mixed up sometimes when I make changes - for instance, when I moved to the other side of the world and changed my bank account, their computer got worried about my annual payments, and kept telling me every few days that HostGator couldn't get through to my old account. Elsewhere on their computer they had all the details correct, and the annual payment went through without problems - except that the computer then told them that I had made a new purchase, so they asked me to write this review.
It may be difficult sometimes to get support, but I find that the smartchat contact always works everything out well for me.

Best price for the upfront cost
Best price for the upfront cost. I have used Hostgator pages for web education for years. I was however disappointed to find I had to manually install SSL as I have asked others and HostGator didn't have the problems I did with this process even though it looked super simple in Wordpress. Email didn't immediately work and I still can't use the default client in windows to log into my mail even using the very specific email instruction and videos that look so easy. Honestly considering a refund so far.

"Feeeeeel Our Passion" - HostGator
Bought a WP theme for its design and quality.

I hadn't known or read that Max Execution Time setting must be at least 300, whereas my HostGator cloud plan was set to just 30. And HG support said as per their policy on my plan, it is not possible increase it. I contacted more than 3 different support team members in HostGator and all of them said the same. Then I had submitted a hosting plan cancellation with HG.

Still I contacted my WP theme seller's support and requested to help the situation. Without even seconds delay, their team went out of their way and logged into my cPanel and WP admin (with my permission) and fixed the issue. Within 30 mins.

Why HostGator support could not do that is a BIG question when HostGator are trying to depict an image as highly customer focused company. However my WP theme seller company saved one of HG's cancellations:)

Remember, whether HostGator is good at supporting their customers or not, they know how to interrupt our YouTube movie to say "Nothing makes us happy more than helping our customers"

Decent host, but they need to be more thorough...
I migrated our company's website over from NameCheap because of security breaching issues and because HostGator provides cleaning. It's been a over a year and when it renewed, our entire website and email was down because HostGator didn't make sure to switch our email over to their host as well. When we told them about it they said email wasn't paid for. So we asked for the bill. They said there was no bill. So we said "Create one!" They said they couldn't. Finally, it all got taken care of. Not everyone is a professional website builder or coder, so they definitely need to keep that in mind. Some of us are just regular people who know nothing about this stuff, but need to have a business website.
Another thing is that they offer different priced security packages, though they're telling you that if you don't get the most expensive one, you'll still have breaches... I don't understand that. Then why even offer packages that DONT WORK?

Attractive, full featured website from templates - some learning curve
I am IT-technical, but had not set up a website in years. That made the initial setup harder than I expected as there are many menus, options and settings to understand in PageLayer as well as in the initial hosting. Use the help line. HostGator were very responsive and knowledgeable and helped me with a few things (e.g. Google registration) that I couldn't figure out hunting the menus. I am extremely pleased with the look and function of my final website which I based on a "photographer" template. I notice the website loads a few seconds slower than optimized sites like amazon, but that doesn't matter for my purposes. Know that you're signing up for a long period to get the promotional price so the initial outlay will be a multiple of the monthly fee. I know I will want my site for a while, so that wasn't an issue. There were many upsell "opportunities" presented, but none were required, they were well-explained, and the prompts were not too intrusive.

This website is a trap
HostGator lure you in with the promise of their basic plan and it's functionality, but what they don't make obvious is that they are limited by their usage of plug ins and software to programs that make you pay for full functionality and mislead you with free trials that CHARGE YOUR CARD.

On top of that they make you feel safe with a 30 day refund but if you look within the fine print: "If your plan includes a free domain name and you cancel within 1 year, our standard fee of $17.99 for the domain name (and any
Applicable taxes) (the "Domain Name Fee") will be deducted from your refund." While at the same time they keep the domain name.

So yes. In a word: trap.

Stay away; Hostgator has degraded greatly!
I was with hostgator for years. As time progressed, I encountered more and more problems with my shared VM lagging out, and their 5-year old SpamAssassin system failing to properly prevent a large volume of spam from crowding my mailboxes. When I switched to another host, the spam issue completely disappeared, and my website has no latency issues anymore. On top of that, I found out Hostgator had been charging me for nearly two years for a service I cancelled; I missed it because it was billed exactly 10 days apart from another service of the same amount (so when reviewing finances HostGator were never on the same screen, and I took it as the core hosting). Of course they wouldn't refund anything (even though the site was never used or accessed, which they refused to confirm). Ultimately, they have degraded to a terrible hosting provider and refuse to work with their customers on billing issues. As such I have removed all business, and I couldn't be happier. Stay away, and host elsewhere! (note I am purposely omitting the new hosting company so readers don't think I'm trying to sell another service)

Do NOT use HostGator.com it is the Worst hosting ever
Do NOT use HostGator it is the Worst hosting ever, and here are some of the reasons:

1) HostGator claim to have 24/7 live support, HostGator are lairs

A- To connect to the chat support you spend 3 hours waiting that is during working hours, at night hours forget it they do not exist.
B- They do NOT have Ticket support, means you can not submit a ticket asking help
C- They do NOT have email support, means you can not email them asking for help.
D- If you are patient enough and waited 3 hours to talk to the support, you will find that you waited for nothing as the support who will be talking to you, he himself needs support, in other words you will be talking to a guy God knows from which part of Asia who who is helpless himself.

2) HostGator.com (To save in bandwidth) will secretly disable the email functions in your websites, in which when someone sign up to your website he will not get the verification email which means he will never login to your website which means he will leave and never come back again.

* You will be paying thousands of dollars on marketing and you will be wondering why there are no new sign, actually there are sign ups but they do not get any email to complete the sign up process.

3) HostGator.com (To save in bandwidth) will secretly put a catching system on your websites, in which your website visitors will keep loading pages from their computer catch and they will keep seeing your website page they loaded the very first time, they will never be able to see any new changes or any new updates made in the website.

** You will be paying thousands of dollars on marketing and you will be wondering why there are no new conversions, how they will order or buy when the pages do not change to them, as they are loading pages form their computer catch.

*** So you know why you are getting it cheap? Because IT IS CHEAP.

* So with all these misuses of your hosting, along with literary no any support of any kind, you end destroying your business if you host it at HostGator.com

Do not get scammed by their ad that show instant 24/7 support, you will not get any support of any kind from them.

* We all go to HostGator.com because its cheap, but for the little amount that you save with hostgator you end destroying your entire business and losing everything you invested to make online business.

So you invested so much money and time to start an online business do not lose all your investment by hosting it at HostGator.com.

Hostgator has screwed my business, do not give them a chance to screw yours.

After setting up an account w/hosting, I received an email 'Getting Started with Optimized Wordpress' with info for my account and links to guided walkthroughs to setting things like email and wordpress up... NONE OF THE LINKS WORK! HostGator either go straight to the customer login portal and then dashboard and no tutorial, or they link to a page like this https://www.hostgator.com/domains/?walkme=103842 or in other cases a nonfunctional page. Not one of them actually goes to any helpful info. WTF?

Affordable & Convenient
When you purchase software, you are buying it with the hope that it fits your needs. There is always concern in the back of your mind that it might not work. What makes this concern mitigable is if there is someone who can walk you through any challenges or concerns you may have. That was the case with my purchase. If it was not for the splendid, awesome, great, amazing, great (didn't I say that already!) customer service, I would be writing a different review. The individual who assisted me embodied patience, empathy, and virtually held my hand as we made adjustments to my website. My site is activated and running well with no problems. I would recommend HostGator! In fact, I am using it for another website project I am involved in!

Word press nonfunctional
Word press nonfunctional. You said it was having problems, and you'd notify me in my Dashboard, but I can't tell if the problem is fixed, since there's no indication of a problem or a fixed issue. I keep clicking and it keeps telling me it's a "failure". I managed to get onto webpress, and was using it once, using a non-dashboard method. But I ran into a problem and the thing crashed or something. I doubt I was in the right place anyway, because it was trying to use a different Password. I wasn't sure to keep what HostGator gave me or use the one HG gave me. Anyway, so far it's been totally unusable.

Worst access to customer service of all sites I've used
I've used Hostgator for many years on and off. It's been just okay the whole time. I've left them a couple of years ago and opted for other platforms to see what works.

Problem 1: I've experienced a few times where my site could not be accessed. So "downtime".

Problem 2: The worst thing about Hostgator is customer support. HostGator make you jump through SO MANY hoops to chat with someone. It's ridiculous. It should be as easy as filling out a support ticket but it's not. You have to sign in to a separate site from your control panel and account to get to billing. And they ask so many questions and then list a bunch of articles that they expect you to read through before getting help. I only ever need to contact them if I can't find help IN the help articles!

Why make it such a difficult task to get help from an actual person? Sorry but Hostgator has the worst access to support of any site I can think of. I can think of sites that are probably larger that make it far easier to send off an email or fill out a support ticket.

I don't think I will ever use Hostgator again.

I have 5 accounts with HostGator
I have 5 accounts with HostGator. I opened my 1st account 5 years ago and I have NOTHING to complain about in 5 years of service!

I had the "chance" to try other hosts, and HostGator don't compare to HostGator. I tried to request a dedicated IP and install an SSL with another host and it took about a week! Completely ridiculous!

The same thing with HostGator took a whole 2 hours!

Excellent product, extremely quick customer service, knowledgeable staff. Oh, and did I mention the prices are extremely competitive?

I spoke with someone extensively yesterday about moving to HG from Google's app engine and she said it was possible. But once I sent the website backup to the team overseas to begin the migration, HostGator implied (never said) that HG can't take a Google site. They sent a link to documentation to that effect. I don't know if the woman yesterday was desperate to make a sale or what, but now I have to dispute the credit card charge and go buy hosting somewhere else. HG support has made a difficult project (getting internal control of our company website) unnecessarily difficult. Not at all pleased.

Fraudulent charges
Over a two year period, a child company of Endurance International, Hostgator.com, charged me for services that had previously been cancelled. After numerous contacts HostGator said they would refund the fraudulent charges to the card used. However that card had since expired and was removed from my profile with them so as not to be used for other fraudulent transactions. When I requested a paper check be mailed to me I was told I'd "need to wait and see."

My domain was deactivated because I didn't verify my email. I really thought my email was already verified since all my billing info an other notifications were going to my inbox. There should be an initial verification process to avoid this kind of misunderstanding. Other than that this service is great so far. I wish I didn't have to wait up to 48 hours for my domain to re-register, this is the worse possible time to be down due to being the last working week before the holiday this month.

Must know before going with HostGator
Will try to make it beneficial for you. Start learning...
HostGator is not as good as you see in the reviews as compare to BlueHost, MochaHost, etc. *Not Sponsored* these are more secure and provide good services, each and every thing that you need to make your online presence. And not too much difference in prices as you have to go with them and you have to use a shared server just like property but there is no reselling :( [I never recommend you to purchase for 3 years]
Let me explain the problems of hostgatarians...
If you are facing any of the issue, it is normal, most of their users have same complains. (UPVOTE it)
You will be good with them if you are using the single domain with shared hosting hahah and HostGator do backups only for 100000 inodes (aprox. MySQL® Disk Usage 450 MB & Disk Usage 5 GB while they claim unlimited space to trap you -> today learn more about their traps) if you go double, 200000 inodes, CS will redirect you to TOS that they do not allow more space, lol as you are trapped. Bear Them now!
They provide you extra ordinary service for 45 days, why not, these days are money back guarantee days. After 45 days, now your time is started to plan to leave their services.
If you grow and reach to 3 GB disk storage and ready to go with your websites then it is time to get 500 IS error when you need to update the data and need to kill the processes each time and it will take 3x time. If you contact to the customer support, they will ask you to upgrade your server to the dedicated one or to VPS (believe me you will not face these problems with blue or mocha) its normal with HG my friend learn more...
After 3 months your website will be started to be infected by malwares and the email password will be started stolen. If you ask them to clean malwares that can be resolved by replacing the files... haha and they will recommend you to use sitelock (bcz they need commission) while making WP secure is so easy, you can have free and the best available plugins like wordfence. You can keep secure your site by scanning and by using it.
About CSs all of their CS not knowledgeable, its ok, as in team, it is difficult to filter the team members, and interesting they will never redirect the chat to the related department as Bluehost CSs. And each CS has different statement and I was unable to find team work within them, worse reality. And they will make changes to your Purchase without getting permissions from you. If you are planning to go with HG, please must think about your time and investment and try to get short term services if you want to test on your behalf and I recommend you to choose the one, provides you shortterm service like Mocha... or go with the best one Blue by closing your eyes.

The drowned gator
Used to be my favorite host platform for more than 7-8 years. Up to a few days ago i had 7 accounts and over 20 websites and domains hosted with them. However, this once amazing host has fallen down unimaginably. I've started having significant problems with my hosting, slow speeds, horrible pricing. Domains are overpriced although HostGator sell it through Launchpad INC which as far as i understand is their own company. However, if you purchase through hostgator you will be asked to pay around 15 USD more for domain privacy which in launchpad is included for free, see the attached pictures! Its unacceptable! As for hosting, they lure you in with some interesting offers in the beginning and then enjoy your renewal pricing (for the same horrible hosting service)! Loading times on their hosting accounts have become absolutely horrible. Customer support on the other hand has no idea what they are doing more often than not! A domain which was set to expire recently was deleted from my account. Without warning email, without asking if i would like a renewal. I contacted support which "re-registered it for me" 4 days passed and domain is in propagation. Recontact support and they figure "something was not activated"... It was the domain which supported emails of a medical clinic! I have changed my hosting provider for 99% of my services and the difference is night and day. This week im moving the last remaining services to a new provider. Im done with this host. Do yourself a favor and stay as far as possible from them. I dont know how they managed it but they somehow drowned that poor gator that they have in their logo in a very veeeery deep lake. I highly doubt he'll come up to dry ground any time soon!

Bad Hosting Support and Pretty Manipulative Company
1. Hostgator does'nt give quality support especially technical support. No way easy getting your way, solving your queries on cpanel &/ your websites, blogs.
2. HostGator are good manipulators. Your server/s will be changed without any notice. Sometimes its apache, sometimes its nginx... you do'nt know. Then they tried to force Attracta (SEO company) on to its customers.
3. They stopped giving email support. Now its much harder to get them with Live Chat. Chat is often busy. Phone support is there but its useless.

I have made 4 calls and hours ont he line with various technicians to complete my website migration, it is still not completed. Somehow Hostgator has scrambled my account with someone else. Everyone is so nice but I don't understand the lack of competence. I've already paid you and I not only want to take my business somewhere else, just want to cry at this point. I don't understand how this can be so hard for a company that specializes in these transactions. Please HELP.

After being with them 3 months and asking about sending 150,000 emails at one time, HostGator finally tell me they don't allow purchased mailing lists no matter how good they are! Getting information from them the whole time was like pulling teeth! Alot of kindergarten responses! SUUUCH a stressful time in my life because of them! On the phone everyday at least twice per day! They messed up my upgrade /transfer and problems with the site ever since. They refused to re-do the transfer the right way and fix every little thing as we go along!

Horrible support for an easy issue
Having a problem with https :// /autodiscover/autodiscover. Xml returning results (when it shouldn't). As a result we can't configure newer versions of Outlook for multiple users. It took Microsoft to find the issue being caused by the site. We found a HostGator tech article which said the solution was easy - just set MX Entry to "Remote". When nothing was fixed, we found posting saying it takes HostGator up to 48 hours to implement. We waited 48 hours... nothing. So we started chat sessions over 4 days and keep being told "we're very busy - please wait for a 'few' more hours. We're now at day 6 with hours and hours wasted trying to get this fixed... still nothing.

If you own a business - do yourself a favor, go elsewhere. HostGator is the BIGGEST mistake we have made with our site, and are users email is still down (with Microsoft saying - nothing can be done till this is fixed.

It was supposed to be simple and easy to use to create a website/web-portfolio.
I cannot even edit the starter post, despite trying.
I cannot upload an image, despite trying.
The post will not UPDATE.
Never used WordPress before and did not want to pay their prices, instead selecting HostGator, just to find out that I still had to create a WordPress account plus another account for Gravator in order to upload a profile photo.
I cannot discern how to change the public view of my page... and its embarrassing.
Further - please, for the sake of new users, please remember that whenever an acronym is used, like SEO, it is incredibly important that you actually spell out what that acronym stands for - somewhere on the page, ideally at the first usage of the acronym.
This was not very navigable for someone who has never built a website before and lacks coding and technical knowledge.

Sold me a different hosting package
Clicked on the sign-up button of windows hosting - Enterprise Plan only to be serve a linux hosting - business plan. Waited over 12 minutes for a support staff meant to have turned up within 5 minutes. Website took long to open while signing up.

Nonetheless, I believe in giving a service provider benefit of doubt. Went ahead to enroll for the windows hosting package - Enterprise Plan. Hope the service meets my expectation.

Notably, my refund hasn't processed through but I'm optimistic it will process through for these bank sharks to cut their share further.

Stores passwords in plain text, often overselling their hosting
HostGator is a prime of example of what happens when a business tries to cut as many corners as possible with their web hosting. Since its inception, it seems it has been a standard procedure to store client passwords in plain text which is certainly not a great security practice (and was even known as a bad security practice in the early 2000s). HostGator are often overselling their platform and thus are putting their clients in a bad position where there are not enough resources to serve all of their customers.

Their support is notoriously slow and agents often misunderstand what the client is asking, requiring multiple people to get involved when the issue is resolved by a single agent on competing services.

Would not recommend them at all even if you're in need of a cheap option.

WORST COMPANY EVER. NOT EVEN REGISTERED. AVOID!
Fraudulent company. HostGator will not listen to you but will be quick to listen if you want to pay them to sabotage your competitor. If you have a website please DON'T host here. They will be ready to take money from your competitors and ask them to pay. When you come asking why your website was suspended they will close the chats and not even pick your calls.

They suspended my website and asked me to pay $5000 if i wanted if to be activated. Fortunately, I had a backup. It if didn't have i was almost paying.

Bad Managed Service Support -
Day 3, of support request from my Dedicated Managed Server Support. I am informed that that "Admin" will get back to me. Since I can't do any business with many unhappy customers I might as well give a day by day update to help other not to signup with HostGator. HostGator are not what they once were. Their service has nearly grinded to a halt and has become a "door stop" to any sort of stable ecommerce. They say a picture says a thousand words... see attachment.

Words do NOT describe my frustration with these people
Words do NOT describe my frustration with these people. My website keeps going down and HostGator promise 99% UPTIME. My web company always calls me to tell me the website is down again and to upgrade my server. I call these people every day and get a different answer from every person I talk to. The customer service agents sound like little kids and they are very rude. AND to top it off, whenever I ask to speak to a supervisor they tell me NO! Finally, I got fed up with being told no to speak to someone that can help me so I reported my phone call. IF ANYONE EVER HAS A PROBLEM WITH THEM, THEY RECORD ALL PHONE CALLS. All you have to do is email *******@hostgator.com with the time you called, number you called from, and the first name and last initial of the person you spoke with. I have now had 5 apology letters from hostgator.com. My service has improved but they still get 1 star for how unprofessional their agents are.

Higher IT support is unreachable.
I bought a dedicated server from HostGator on March 10th, 2021. Since the first day, I have been requesting help from their IT team. When I contact chat support HostGator always explain they could only do first-level tech support which is okay but then when I ask to get further help, they explain that the case needs to be escalated. The level 2 tech support can only be contacted via email. It takes forever to get a response. It is now 14 days after, I made the purchase and I am still not set up. I am still waiting for IT support from HostGator. They need to have a direct number for help that is level 2 tech support. It is unacceptable.
