So-so product, atrocious customer service
The hosting and web building service is adequate, nothing more. Basic package is bare minimum. Everything costs extra. I experienced numerous error messages during the development of my site, and my site was not live for several days, unbeknownst to me (HostGator did not notify me of this). Customer service is awful: outsourced people who are difficult to understand and lacking in necessary knowledge. Supervisors aren't much better. It's a company that maximizes its profits by cutting every possible corner.

Stay away, they are scammers
I used hostgator during their promotional discounted offer. Their promotional offer was so cheap that I decided to buy multiple domains and use their hosting for my business. I checked hostgator reviews before I signed up. There were actually a lot of "stay away" reviews. Customers complained about getting charged for services HostGator cancelled. I naively thought this won't happen to me. Boy, was I WRONG.

I requested to cancel my domain privacy service in April 2016. They told me everything is cancelled. I have the chat message and everything. In August 2016 I realized they were still charging my business card. I thought, wait this isn't right. At this point I still had Domains with them. But I signed up for an annual plan so I should only be billed annually. So I logged into my hostgator account and saw that they've been charging me for the same service I cancelled 4 months ago.

So I contact them again and ask what the heck is going on. They said that they were charging me for my other domains. Let me note that I had over 10 domains but only signed one of them up for domain privacy. So I made it clear in August that I want it cancelled for all domains not just one. They promised they would.

Guess what? You guessed right. It's now December 2016 and I'm still being charged. I had to dispute the charges with my credit card company. And they still continue to charge me. I have to get a new card because these guys are liars and scammers. I should have paid attention to the negative reviews. They make money off subscriptions that people forget about. They don't make cancellations!

Stay away from Hostgator at all cost! They will never stop charging you!

I am trying to do a migration, but my ticket got closed...
I am trying to do a migration, but my ticket got closed and when I reached support HostGator said that would reopen it and continue the process there, which didn't happen... The whole issue was with namecheap, and due to this delays (caused by inode number of files in trash) I now have to pay them another month fee, while my ideia was to terminate it as soon as I hired in here, but can't untill the migration is done, so the lack of feedback on the ticket, and the Request Migration form not working as it should (fails on give feedback on error, and checking the network tab it shows a CORS error), I am unable to make the migration happen... So I'm paying for 2 hosting providers, and frustrated at both =/

Very cumbersome
Very cumbersome. I have THREE accounts and it's like pulling teeth to get everything synced and to remain synced. I have websites that keep popping up as "Not Secure". The cPanel name is quirky when everything else requires my email address. An agent CHANGED my associated email address and never bothered to change it back.

I've spent a lot to get my sites up. These things need to resolved and I need a much smoother user experience. Otherwise, I might just switch hosting platforms. Very cumbersome!

I chose HostGator because we used at work and it was fine. However, for a non-website professional, this system is NOT dummy proof so I will call the help desk again tomorrow. Totally frustrated with this whole thing. After posting this initial review, the customer satisfaction team reached out to me and HostGator where absolutely wonderful. Superb customer service and for this non-website professional, I did publish my website with their help. Thanks a lot.

I was happy with Hostgator a few years ago but was...
I was happy with Hostgator a few years ago but was away from website creation for a while. When I decided to come back, I opted into a company with a one-time fee for hosting, email, etc and lots of promised perks but I had one problem after another and was not able to get a website up and running. The owners all sent me promo emails for related products to buy but never any info about the hosting company itself. Support was slow and sketchy. I was so frustrated at one point that I told them by email (which was the fastest was to contact them!) that I was seriously thinking about going back to Hostgator. That didn't seem to phase them though. HostGator had gotten my original payment so I guess that was their only purpose in advertising the hosting package. Can you tell I'm still miffed with them? Cheaper is not always better!
Anyway, I'm back hopefully for a long time with a company I'm sure will supply the service and components I need for success.

My site is live and Host Gator did a great overall job.
Host Gator handled the transfer and setup of my site without issue and it is working great. I did have to contact their support a few times, but every time HostGator were super friendly. The only issue I ran into is it wasn't working from my local network and I was told by support that since it was working on their end it was an issue with my network. Overall it took me over a week to diagnose, but what had ended up happening is my IP address was put on the IP block list during the transfer. This was definitely something that Host Gator could have helped me diagnose, but instead they pushed the problem back on me.

After resolving that issue, the hosting is going great, love the FTP and the friendly customer support that is easy to access.

Best customer service in the world
Hostgator has been one of the best experiences ever, and I'm not only talking about the service by itself as a hosting provider (and yeap, it rocks, it's one of the best if not the best one), but also their customer experience, the response time, knowledge of people working behind scenes helping you, it's just AMAZING! Thanks, Hostgator! (I've bought 3 different plans my first one for only 1 domain and the rest for customers sharing multiple websites in the same host plan).

10/29 start-Reseller accounts have been down for over...
10/29 start-Reseller accounts have been down for over 30 hours now. No communication to customers, besides HostGator are working on it. Many of us found out by calls in the middle of night early morning by our own clients. NO ETA at all. During the day Facebook and Twitter followers made replies and significant amount for these replies were deleted, including mine. My were appropriate but very factual. Several reports on Facebook of waiting for over an hour then starting to talk and be hung up on via live chat and phones. At one point no one would answer phone support or reply to social media.

Because it was referred to me by someone I saw on youtube...
Because it was referred to me by someone I saw on youtube who said it was a good platform but I find the domain cost to be very high so I gave you 3 start you need to work on the domain cost if 1&1.com can sell domain for $1 and still make a profit you can do better on your cost and then charging $29 to restore my site when the earlier rep told me it would be restored free of cost when I called back to see why it wasn't done I was hit with the $29 cost to restore my site to an earlier time. And then charging $8 to port in a domain these are the reason I gave 3 stars

Pure evil
These guys became market leaders on good support and customer care. A while back HostGator were acquired in a buyout and since then their attitude has dropped off a cliff. They do not support ticket system any more and if you wish to wait on the phone for 1+ hour waiting on their phone support I wish you luck. I had been a happy client for 10 + years but earlier this year they put their prices up, did not advise me and then just charged my paypal account the 30% increase without my consent. When I questioned them they said oh we notified everyone via their online blog. Avoid them like the plague!

Very unhappy, cannot log into my account by filezilla
Very unhappy, cannot log into my account by filezilla. Looked at your video and it seems that you changed interface of control panel, I cannot see site IP, only current user. Finally I found site IP after 40 minutes, now I cannot log because of password/username. I cannot find password, it is not shown in introductory e-mail. It seems it is not same as my password I use in sign in page at hostgator.com. Through that page I can go into c-panel, but when I sign out of c-panel and try to log in directyl into it, I cannot, different password and username, and I have read that that password is needed for filezilla. You have created real mess, process which should take 5 minutes (already have experience with filezilla) will take hours and will have to contact live support. Also very unhappy about billing menu, could not find cancel button, I just checked, so after one year it will be chore to cancel automatic renewal and avoid 200% price hike. I think I will just request my money back.

I have a shared account and also a reseller account...
I have a shared account and also a reseller account with them. What I like the most is the support is knowledgable and helpful. I have many domains hosted with them, although there were hiccups because of my sites taking up some server resources, all of them were ironed out smoothly and politely.

If you need to try them for almost free (pay only $0.01), use the coupon code CPANELHOSTING.

You can also use the coupon code SERVERHOSTING to save 25% from your first bill.

Worst customer service.
I have been using Hostgator to host my websites for more than 5 years. Lately, I have had issues with hosting connection. I received an email notification to optimise my site -- which I did. However there was no communication after that. I sent numerous emails and support tickets -- to which were not attended to. My site was down for more than 4 days now and still no reply. This has drastically affected my business. I am not happy with this service and will definitely move to a different hosting provider. As an ongoing customer, you expect service.

I have contacted Chat four times now
I have contacted Chat four times now. Each time HostGator "escalate" and someone is supposed to contact me. But each email I get is one step behind and has not read the chat transcripts. So I got four emails from your support group now, another just a little while ago. And none of them called me as I asked. If they would chat with me, or talk to me, I can tell them they are not up to date on the debugging.

This last email is particularly obnoxious and I still cannot access my site. So your feedback, chat, email, support, escalation groups are NOT working together. That Jason S did not even read what had happened. The same with the others in the tier4. It is falsely labeled.

The smartest and best person so far is Nanda and we chatted and worked for an hour and 45 minutes. She got the domain name finally registered and got things working. But I still cannot get to the control panel from my Portal. Dashboard.

Your CEO and managers are not available, and probably don't listen or care. All the escalations are going to people who don't read carefully.

Give Nanda a promotion, make her in charge of the escalation groups. She knows how to debug, more importantly she knows how to communicate and keep at something until it works. She just did not have access to basic tools to test the Windows server. Let the Chat group see the status and change basic settings on ALL servers.

Maybe eventually, my GlobalComs.Org at HostGator will be online. It does not look very hopeful at this point. Those escalation people are supposed to be so smart, but they are not diligent and don't put in the effort necessary to do the whole job. They send glib emails and are always doing less than needed. Shame on their supervisor/manager/department head/division head whatever, for accepting less the best in world practices.

I planned to move some of my hosting to HostGator from...
I planned to move some of my hosting to HostGator from GoDaddy. I had some problems while setting up my account and contacted support. I had a poor experience. I've been a GoDaddy customer for 19 years. I was attempting to save some money by moving some of my sites to HostGator as the prices seemed very good. My experience was very bad. I had issues understanding the tech support personnel and it made the experience unacceptable. I would like to end my Hostgator relationship and get a refund. I think this might be a challenge.

Site Activation & Support
HostGator is like some; others - using cPanel. This is I feel is the best way to fully utilize the functionality and completeness of an install and full on support. Which brings me to support! Bar none; HostGator truely extends the use of the help desk functions and the individuals who are by the way quite knowledgeable. If you are using the chat function to resolve, add, move files what ever that may be fine. If it may be in the rehlm of other tech help in which your current help desk is unable to comply?; you are forwarded to that certain help desk person and - YES 99% of the time - you end up with issue / problem solved. HEY! Not everything ever goes right. As long as you can accept that - then, by all means; you will have landed the help you were looking for. With that said - HostGator is extremely reliable and certainly fully supportive of their customers. Enjoy your site choice and relax. HostGator got you.

Horrible Customer/Tech support
Requested a simple site restoration from backup due to a problem caused while working with their support. Was charged $25 and told 24-48 hours for the restoration. 4 days later and it still has not been done. Each time I call support or chat with support I am told, "We are sorry," or "we feel your trouble," or "you are important to us," or "our admins have it in the queue and we can't do anything about it," with no change. HostGator refuse to allow transfer to supervisor stating, "they will only tell you what I have told you."

You are at their mercy and they don't care about you or your site.

Excellent Customer Support
In a market segment that's plagued with subpar customer support and service, HostGator offers live chat or telephone support 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.

If your issue requires more in-depth, technical support, your request will be escalated to the proper support staff.

I'm going on 15 years with HostGator and can say that any issues that have occurred during my hosting relationship with them have been ultimately resolved and generally resolved in an expedient manner.

Any company can provide you bandwidth and a hosting platform but it takes great customer service to make the relationship last!

I have not once had any downtime with hostgator
I have not once had any downtime with hostgator. Every question I have had were answered quickly. I have recommended my friends to them and HostGator have all been happy with them.

When I switched to my main income source of business being online, I put my faith into hostgator. I have been quite pleased with them. When you think hosting providers it comes down to just a few key things:

Price: You can get the first month hatchling plan for a penny (coupon code: PENNYSAVER), then its only about $7 a mmonth after that. I have not found anything with a similar price value.

Reliability: I work from home, and it is super important to have 100% uptime. Hostgator does this for me.

Speed: So, Google now can rank sites based on their loading speed. I have gotten every one of my sites on the first page of google with the speed that hostgator has.

Tools: They give you a lot of tools in the dashboard. You won't need half of them. Buuut they are all nice to have just in case.

I highly recommend them.
