I heard about this site through Tumblr and wanted to run a background check on myself (wanted to make sure my address wasn't accurate) so I paid like 90 cents to run it and I thought I'd canceled everything but I just got a $30 charge. Luckily the site seems shady enough my bank will hopefully refund me, but it's a pandemic and money is tight so that definitely hurt. Do NOT give them your credit card information!

I graduated from TCU in 1967 and lost track of my roommate... but knew he was from Houston Area... nothing worked so I tried this service just for kicks... Spokeo found his name in Florida, his last street address there and eventually found his real estate broker who knew him well and gave me his phone number. All in about 30 minutes.
I then cancelled my one time service which was not a problem at all... gal on phone was delightful and I would use them again for sure. Bob

As you will notice in other reviews, Spokeo turns a one time $. 95 charge into a monthly subscription fee. I might not have minded if I had received an e-mail saying my "free week" (or whatever it was) was expiring and I will be auto charged using my previous payment method. Yes Spokeo, you beat me out of $25. Congrats. You have been around for a while so clearly the model must work. However, just because you can do it doesn't mean you should do it.

Searching an email address on their landing page. I input the address and started the initial search. There was a progress meter running, like something was happening. The results were hidden, until payment. But the results promised for the specific search were quite extensive. There were big green check marks next to Name, address, social media and many others. Once I paid the fee and was automatically signed up for their 7-day trial membership, I was now a member. In 7 days Spokeo would be charging my $24.95 a month until cancelled. I looked at the results of the search for which I was promised. When I looked, I was advised that there was no information for this email address search.

Then they had a pop-up asking to share my experience so far. I shared what I just told you and asked them to contact me for more information. Then I submitted that to them. In that process they supplied this review site for me to share my experience of their website. How handy!...:-)

I, also, am having difficulty cancelling my subscription. There is a "Cancel" button under my account settings. But, when I press it, it does not cancel the membership. It asks for one of their staff to contact you about cancelling, via email, phone or live chat. Live chat was not functioning. I chose the email option. I expect grief...:-(

Avoid this website, if at all possible.

UPDATE: I did choose the email option for cancelling my membership. At least, this went smoothly. No grief, as I had expected. I received and email that day advising me that my membership was cancelled. I will, of course, be monitoring my payment method to see if a $24.95 charge occurs in the next weeks.

Are you kidding me? Free person look up free reverse number look up and ect. After you enter information which take your precious time... it does it 60 sec search and then blacks everything out. Looks like a redacted FBI report. Can't get any information unless you pay for the monthly or immediate memberships... don't waste time just face that you will probably not find anything out unless you want to pay to any of these sites. Most are same place just under a different name. Monopolies!

Over 90% of the information you will find is inaccurate, misleading and negative, affecting your social and financial credit scores. What you won't find are positive notes such as educational, military, and employment history, awards, certificates, licenses. AVOID SITES LIKE THIS WHEN MAKING DECISIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT FOR APPLICANTS and or by DETERMINING ONES CHARACTER OR RELIABILITY.

I had used this site once before (2014) and had no qualms over using Spokeo again.
The family needed information on an aunt that sort of 'disappeared' sometime in the 1970s. Within minutes, I had the needed info.
Not sure why the negative reviews are so angry... the site does exactly what it states it will accomplish.
I had the one-week free trial after buying one search. At the end of the week, I called Customer Service and spoke to Alex. An absolute pleasure to speak to her! Professional, articulate, and friendly. The cancellation was smooth and quick.
It would be wonderful if she could train ALL c. S. agents.

I got important info from the 3 people searches I looked for. And 2 of the 3 searches, was enough knowledge to make contact. I am grateful for Spokeo's efficiency, in having this data in their system! And when I ended the $. 95 seven day trial period, the gentleman easily went through the cancellation process for me, without urging me to come on board with a subsription. I got a very good deal, for $. 95! Thank you Spokeo! Also the 3 total customer service reps, were very courteous & respectful!

As an IT professional I have a lot of suspicion. The owner of the site clearly scrapes the Dark Web as is stated. My suspect is that this leads average consumers to believe Spokeo are able to "look under the surface for some juicy or secret information." Several times over the past few years I've run a test batch of 50 number and people searches. Rarely is more than 10 accurate results returned. Yes, they will "forget" to cancel you. You'll have to watch and call several times. But I believe that is part of their business model. Even at just. 95 cents for a 7 day trial as little as 100 hits a day for only one day then cancel is a LOT of Money. And, if the owner is able to pick up a month or two, then all the better. I own an IT company and a Database service. I would bet you a dollar to a dime Spokeo's entire employee count doesn't surpass 3 people. Spokeo is nothing more than a user interface filled with scraped information from inaccurate sources and the owner doesn't "scrub" the data clean before reselling it to you.

This service is a scam. Take a look at this screen shot of the search review of a phone number. Does it not give the impression that items with a green check box are available and all you have to do is pay $0.95 to view it? Wrong. The customer service rep. Stated the check boxes simply mean a search was performed on these items, not that Spokeo are actually available. I paid the fee thinking the data was available only to be given the same two pieces on info that are on the initial search screen (i. E. Minneapolis and Onvoy). Save your money, this company makes money by misleading you.

Crooked company. Spokeo hook you in with a "free trial" but what you're really getting is them automatically enrolling you in a yearly subscription and charging your card monthly without ever sending a billing statement. So you don't look at your statement for a month or two because you haven't charged anything. However, Spokeo has been charging you and will not refund your money, even though they can see that you have not been using the service. Not only that, but the person I originally looked up using their "free trial?" None of the information provided by Spokeo was worthwhile.

Worst service ever: Spokeo failed as well as charged me with zero notice.

I used spokeo supposedly for a one time fee and then got charged $24.95 for the next three months on my paypal with zero emails or notice until I realized my paypal balance was going down and wrong.

I attempted to call them and got an all agents are in a conference please call back later.
I wrote them and got an automated replay.

I tried to log in but wait I have no account and they want my credit card information which I did not use.

Freaking rip off and lousy service as the scammer I was researching came up as legit.

It has helped me find quite a few things I've been able to connect back with the high school friends I've also was able to find my father who I hadn't seen in years it just keeps you in the loop I guess you could say it's also helped me find out whether or not my significant other was cheating which she was so there's a lot of different things that you could use this website for.

Quite disgusted with your service first of all. When you say something is refundable in the purchase, it better be refundable. Instead I had to start pulling the contract and getting my lawyers involved.

You guys need to get with it cause someone will rip you down.

You have far less info than I've seen with anyone else so far. You nickel and dime the consumer to death. Every search is an add on and then when you say you'll refund someone you try to skimp out on the full refund. Gross

Make sure you read the fine print! There is NO one time fee. In my case I was charged 0.99 for one number look up. Then offered 24.95 for full report which I declined. Guess what one week later I was charged 24.95 as a recurring monthly charge.
When I called Spokeo explained there was a free 7 day trail and then automatically converted to monthly service for 24.95. I cancelled that but was out one month. Total BS

I paid. 95 cents for a one time use. Shortly there after I found a $24.95 charge for a monthly fee. I called the customer service to cancel and get a refund. Spokeo cancelled but would not give a refund. Apparently the. 95 cents was for a 7 day trial which then turned into a monthly charge. They refused to make a refund. It seems like a scam to unknowingly get one to sign up to a monthly service.

Be careful with this product, be careful with the offers Spokeo have, once you use the service even one time they will keep you charging monthly. They charged me $24.99 monthly after I accept an offer they have in their website to use them once for. 94 cents. After that they subscribe and charged me for no reason, So once they have your card number they will keep charging you.
I talked to them on their 1888 number they refused to refund my money.

I only needed this service for a one time lookup, so even though I did cancel that in no way a negative statement about the company. I was allowed to cancel through the customer service phone number (and yes I spoke to a real person) the rep was polite and professional and it took about 3-5 min. The service itself was simple and as accurate as all the others but what I like was the the web page itself was more user friendly, without have to use a tutorial, as some of the sites seem to be designed.

I wanted one phone number search for $0.95 on 2/12/2021, and then was somehow signed up for a subscription. So I was billed $24.95 on 2/20/2021. Then Spokeo only offered to not renew my subscription starting in March when I complained. When I further pressed for a full refund, because I did not want (nor used) the the subscription service, Spokeo only refunded $10 of the $24.95. I'm guessing this is how Spokeo generates income & is a very suspect business practice in my opinion.

Spokeo are truly poor. They have bad people lure you into some deal or just rob other sites of your personal information. It seems they dump their information into a computer that searches for everybody with the name you give them, then give you the wrong one, even if your checking it and asking about yourself. I gleaned this from their many negative reports and my experiences with a similar finder company.
